XC (and CX) is racing. Feel like it's been said a million times in this thread but most people aren't interested in racing: aggro-gravel probably sells more bikes

at what point is a good cross-country hardtail going to be superior?

In my view, the drop bar gravel bike is a bike I can use everyday, whether a mountain bike isn't exactly something I can commute on and do road riding regularly.

Essentially, gravel bikes are more for wankers, knobs, freds and losers wheras mountain bikes are preferred by chiefs, douches and arseholes.

But all cyclists are dickheads

Maybe the first one turning right actually did that to keep away from cute furry creature?

A long time ago we were doing stuff in the Alps, and there was this guy constantly getting way to close to Mama cows with their little ones.

He had no idea that a few hundred kilos of cow can actually cause quite a lot of damage when I asked him to be more careful.
