Then they drove off
Shit! 999?

To say all electric vehicles are massive seems off to me though.
In case it wasn't clear, my whinge was directed at all cars - prompted by the Porsche Taycan chat. As it seems crazy that porsches estate is as big as a proper Range Rover.

I like my zoe. And it's pretty small.
Charging from a lamp post currently which is a bit of a novelty. -

Stirling - it’s not the future, but maybe a glimpse of it
3 x 50w and I think 27 x 22w chargers. All free.
If they can just add a “1” to the power outputs (and I think paying for it is fine) then we’re done.

Should there be a k in those power ratings?

Also have the Id3 , I appreciate it’s an issue with the A pillars from time to time , so a bit more time and care needed at some junctions . It’s a car which kind of encourages a bit more of a relaxed drive when I’m in it .

I watched a whole episode of Vintage voltage ,too many £k putting a Tesla motor in a 911 and then. Imparting the drive with a petrol one on a track .
It screamed why this isn’t a great idea to me , supposed price of EV 911 cira £250k and the noise and gear changes in the ICE Porsche was surely what a vintage and indeed any 911 or really about -

Is your ID3 the teal colour? If so, you may have been behind me going into T******ton last week. I was in a silver Mk1 Insight.

Not guilty … mine’s the ubiquitous grey

I came off an A road roundabout to find someone in a teal ID 3 approaching head on in my lane trying to overtake a line of cars which were obviously slowing down to enter the roundabout themselves.
They had the temerity to flash their lights at me.

I always think things like old RRs or big Mercs are the sort of things you'd want to convert. Ruinous petrol costs and suit never ending torque and a quiet engine.

So I've just been sent a parking ticket from eurocarparks for overstaying at the Shell Kiburn station - as described a few pages back (turned up, joined queue for the fast chargers where one bay was blocked with an i3 that wasnt even plugged in, and a mini in the other charging 99->100%)
Will appeal, but just a total ball ache as shell outsource the parking fines to eurocarparks, who've sent the ticket to onto who forwarded it to me

Just back from a 10 day London -> Scotland -> Northumberland -> London trip in the id.3 in generally cold and usually shitty weather.
Generally fine, journey up was smooth, sat at <70 mph and lucky with chargers (no wait, high charge speeds). Journey down far less so - I hadnt expected the wind and rain to hit the range as much as it did (on top of the cold), so had to put in an extra stop. Every charging station we stopped at had problems and queues - Ionity Peterborough had six people all trying to get connected with issues. We eventually all did, but it was after 30 minutes of trying, only to draw 45kwh
It still all feels too hard at the moment, and will likely stay this way until EV charging is treated on par with petrol as a piece of critical national infrastructure. Can you imagine rolling into service stations on the M1 only to find no petrol, no communication, nobody to give a shit?
The id.3 is going back in a couple of weeks. Its also generally fine, but it has a speed sign recognition thing on cruise control thats very dangerous - it wrongly recognises limits, say a 50mph on a slip road when you're staying on the motorway, or a 30mph from a minor road that crosses the dual carriageway you're travelling along. And then it hits the brakes hard, brake-checking whomever is behind you. Its mental really. Equally the side visibility with the A-pillars (as talked about above) is unacceptable - a real liability at junctions, twisting country lanes and zebra crossings. And the window wipers are set up for left hand drive, so dump the water from the left side to the right...
I wouldnt be totally surprised if there's a handful of accidents with id.3s as the become more popular, and some of these flaws becomes news.

Did I miss something upthread, why is it going back in a couple of weeks? Was it a loan car

It’s an on.to short term (monthly) rolling lease car. We don’t use it enough to justify having a car - it was really just for this Scotland trip, which originally was going to happen over Christmas
Can’t recommend on.to enough though, great service and the ability to try a car for a month or 3 (or more) is very useful.

Does anyone have a Vespa style e-scooter? Initial looks at the market haven’t demonstrated if any have any pedigree/history.
-
• #595
I don’t but I’d love to get my hands on the BMW electric one, it looks class

Totally agree re the blind spots from the A & B pillars, pedestrians, bikes and scooters are all far more difficult to see than any other car I have driven.

Picking up my Model 3 LR tomorrow. Been a bit of a rollercoaster journey which has resulted in me having to drive from north of Glasgow to Kent to pick it up tomorrow (by choice which is full of regret). Doing it there and back in a oner 😬 due to childcare the next day.
Teslas pre sale service is great - although I’ve never bought a new car so can’t compare - the “post sale” service is piss poor. Multiple delays, no communication and the feeling of being in a lottery whether you’ll get a car in the next few months or not.
Mixed emotions as I’m trading in my late dads car which I’ve kept in great condition for the last 6 years.

Nice. Picking up my dads model Y tomorrow in Birmingham and mine is being delivered on Thursday.
My dad has had to fly back from France for 48 hours to collect his otherwise they were putting him to the back of the queue 🤷🏼♂️

Lol you guys are really nailing this saving the planet business
If you want a car with range, it has to have a big battery. Big batteries take room and unless you want take all the cabin space up, you have to make the car bigger.
