Re the french bottom bracket. Yes I too had one of these that kept unscrewing itself. Not really very satisfactory on a fixed wheel bike! I'm told a threadless bottom bracket would have sorted the problem out.
Unfortunately/fortunately, Mrs Greytyke reversed her car over the frame and put paid to further tinkering.
