That link also doesn't work btw. I can see the top bit.
Cummings claiming credit for Farage's slogan, well I guess if Farage doesn't mind...
I think Cummings as somebody who is genuinely good in some tasks, but not very aware of what he's not very good at/trying to mitigate that.
Leading to him not foreseeing being bucked out by Boris.
Or why barging in with an idea (the need may be there in some case tho...) to reform the civil service with people losing their jobs / retraining? Lol, who needs it!!! Does your wife not have money then??? may just not be received that... well :)

[Thick Lizzy], the foreign secretary, is said to be keen on bringing the smaller [1 pint of champagne] bottles back as a way of highlighting the supposed benefits of Brexit.
It’s not going to happen.

have any brits here applied for an irish passport ? was it easy to do ?
-
• #31355
Me. Well, to the Foreign Birth Registration anyway, and citizenship comes after that. You need documentation for your parents and/or grandparents which can be a little bit annoying to get. Other than that I just had to provide some proof of address and pay £200.
There is a big backlog though due COVID. I applied in October '19 and they haven't got to my application yet

It's amazing how difficult getting an Irish passport has become. When I first got mine (admittedly 30 yrs ago), you just had to tick a box on the form saying one grandparent had been born on the island of Ireland - didn't even need to state their names, never mind provide documentation.
-
• #31357
I think it's still a tick box exercise if you're actually born on the island yourself if I remember correctly? But no wonder they've cracked down if that's how it used to be!

wow a 3 year wait, not that i'm in any hurry, might speed up a bit now that covid is receding and workers are getting back to the office

My mum did the forms as she was applying at the same time (along with my siblings) so it was much easier to collect everything together that way.
If I recall correctly it was birth and marriage certificates for my grandparents (and death certificate for my grandad). Then you had to get the forms signed by a witness (GP etc.). Also my birth certificate and I guess my mum's.
It might be a different process for a parent - I'd have a look on here https://www.dfa.ie/citizenship/born-abroad/registering-a-foreign-birth/

I think if you are born in Norn ire to at least one Irish or British parent living here when you were born it's still easy.
We need to send additional paperwork and a passport as furrin's even though my son was born here and that rule wasn't there 30 years ago.
Definitely annoying with waiting lists will need to travel to avoid having to send my passport.
-

If it's your dad I think it's relatively easy. I did it via a grandparent and it took a while to collate all the info and get copy documentation from a few different sources but it wasn't that bad.
That's all for the foreign birth registration. Once you have that the passport is quite straightforward.
I managed to get the registration in 5 months or so but I think they fast tracked it because I needed it before my baby was born so they could get the option to register too.

my sister has started her passport application, birth certificate and marriage certificate for mum and dad needed so she says
will report back on her progress -

I just got copies of all the documents, easy enough to do if you know the dates and locations. You need to send the originals (or the new copies) off so seemed a safer option, particularly with the slow processing.
Also, lots of birth certificates in the UK are the short form ones whereas you need the long one to apply.

Considering both are now printed bits of A4 paper it is terrible that the short form you get for free, but is almost useless, while there is a fee for the long form. Really needs swapping round.

Ordered cork underlay from Engeland.
Get an email: You are in NI it has to come from Poland.
Me: That's ok.Now get another email: And it's 20% vat on top now.
Me: WTFI asked why as NI is in the EU customs union but if this goes on might have to try to source elsewhere.
Honestly...! Edit: I'm just going to ring them maybe it's just confusion cos emails.

Wouldn't / couldn't you just* claim the VAT back once you had it?
* I know - "just"

We paid 10.95€ on a 20GBP gift sent to us in Spain from friends in the UK yesterday. I don't understand how the charges add up anymore?
We've paid out close to 100€ in post/tax charges since our daughter was born, to the point where we've told people not to send anything. Insane.

Taxes to GB seem to be a mess, a mate of mine got a coat from the USA and hit charged 50% of the value in tax!
Which is not correct it should be 20% and courier fee.
Sorry to hear this it sucks you can't even get gifts :(

We had to pay £30 in customs fees for the gifts we got from my wifes sister in Oz.
Yep but a lot that he has written about applies here.
The colonial attitude of Westminster was perhaps fading a bit...then Brexit and Boris Johnsons/ERG type of Brexit showed plainly it hasn't gone away.
Though lately I wonder if those same types give a flying f about anybody...in that sense, there's perhaps nothing special about the shitshow visited upon us.
