See a few cans of easy access mace. For bears, dogs or English owners?

Very much bear country but also probably handy for dogs and English owners.

I've really had the urge to build myself a rigid xc bike as of late. However, I'd only ride the same trails as I would on my cx/grave bike so I don't see the point. Specially as there are some decent rode sections between...

Isn’t part of the fun to ride trails that are sketchy on a road bike with big tyres? I once found my way into a MTB park in NZ by accident. I ended up doing a flip in a sharp corner but it was great fun!

I don’t see the point of a rigid XC if you have a gravel bike, but an XC with front suspension would open up a bunch of options for riding in UK national parks, which are often more rocky than gravely IME.

Found this on my travels. Looks like it belongs here.
Something of this calibre must be a repost.

There is no such thing as "fun". Gravel is serious business. You must have absolutely the right tool for the job and we must discuss the merits of all options including speed over multiple surfaces as that is vitally important for all the racing we all do.

Yeah precisely.
This is why I've not bought one, however I think we are moving up north soon...close to Wales! So a mtb is def on the cards if we do.

Absolutely this.

I've done a similar thing on Salsa Bend bars, jamming bar ends as far inboard as I could. I liked it quite a lot tbh, enough that I'll probably just buy a set of Moloko bars

Okay, let me know when cycling for fun is back on the agenda of topics.

• #23093
I’ve yet to see a 2022 agenda, which is a concern.

2022 agenda:

Sorry, no agenda as yet. I've been busy making preparations for Arkose remembrance day!

Clearly all-road with that front-end geometry. This was covered extensively in Q4 2021.

I'm going over the bars just looking at that

This is kinda my point. I’m not racing gravel, and my “gravel” rides are usually something like 10mi road, 5-10mi singletrack, 10mi road back home.
So how should I prioritize? Do I prioritize speed on the road sections, or fun when I get to the trails? I’d guess that the time I lose on the road sections would be minimal and potentially offset by the more fun on single track part.
All that said, riding road bikes in the dirt is really fun on it’s own and makes the easier trails more interesting. I sometimes call it wrongerbiking.
The reality is that these arguments are completely unnecessary and trivial, but we’re grown folks spending our time thinking about and riding bikes, which is kinda silly anyway, so why not have fun worrying too much about it.
I have 740s and switch between sqlab 16deg or 12deg. I think I prefer 16.
I also have an inner hand position on the brakes (I did try sqlab inner bar struts) but no better than on the brakes. This brings me into a nearly road position. Best of all worlds.
