• There is no such thing as "fun". Gravel is serious business. You must have absolutely the right tool for the job and we must discuss the merits of all options including speed over multiple surfaces as that is vitally important for all the racing we all do.

  • This is kinda my point. I’m not racing gravel, and my “gravel” rides are usually something like 10mi road, 5-10mi singletrack, 10mi road back home.

    So how should I prioritize? Do I prioritize speed on the road sections, or fun when I get to the trails? I’d guess that the time I lose on the road sections would be minimal and potentially offset by the more fun on single track part.

    All that said, riding road bikes in the dirt is really fun on it’s own and makes the easier trails more interesting. I sometimes call it wrongerbiking.

    The reality is that these arguments are completely unnecessary and trivial, but we’re grown folks spending our time thinking about and riding bikes, which is kinda silly anyway, so why not have fun worrying too much about it.

  • You need to make a detailed excel with the time spent in the road with both bikes and time spent in the dirt. Compare at different wattages and only use the fastest bike, the other one should be chucked into the fire.
