I finally caught up with this thread after months of putting in the hours. I don't know what to say. I'm emotionally exhausted. But you're good at writing words and nonwords.

@karolk very kind of you to waste your Sunday reading through a chromo endured mental breakdown
///
I rode the pacer today and it is a nice bike, quite fun and nippy. Friend mentioned it felt very 2007 Fixie with the bars so seems to have achieved what I wanted of it
Bit of a keeper, nice on the road and hard packed dirt
I guess you could call it
road plus-ish-ifitsdryandnotmuddy-andthereisnothingtoorough
Good city bike, quite fun to hop it over cracks and slip between cars; the feeling as you grind out a slope in a larger gear than comfortable because you can’t be arsed to reach for the friction shifter is very “fixie”

Boyfriend has given me their old cannon and I’m now taking over exposed auto focused pictures of everything as if I’m a bad 2000s skate photographer
Does this mean we will be getting sick fish eye edits from a Mini-DV cam?
-
• #1933
unfortunately, as they're a professional videographer, but more importantly, a "man with opinions about tech", the last time someone bought up buying a mini dv cam with fisheye they ranted about being "le wrong generation pilled" and "a waste of money" one should "simply simulate the effect or get a more modern platform" that these things are simply "toys for men in puffer jackets to film ollies outside their we work"
i had to apologise to @Qebrus for their behaviour
but in other news, shouts to @launchpadboi for this ace bar/stem combo for the cross check

What's wrong with puffer jackets and toys?!
I gots those bars. Nice

nothing in my eyes, personally enjoy seeing a post skate dad gain some seretonin from nostalgia, but they seem to be to caught up in their "cant switch off from freelance professionalisation of their hobby completely destroying the joy of a past time they once liked" enduced neuro divergency

Just get a vx1000

Have been getting closer with the cross check, got some lovely parts coming/ collected from various fine forum members
Just need to order the consumables and start putting it together maybe next weekend. once I’ve sorted moving everything in.
Really looking forward to building it , getting a cutting guide and star but tool to round out the toolbox too.
////////
In other news rode this a good few miles and it’s good, comfortable
Will go back to 2.1s I’m sure
Mainly as the tyres will go on the xcheck (I’m informed they should fit under mini motos)
Short ride over to Highbury and Islington > chingford? Summer Epping plan?

Every angle I see of the bars on the Homer make them look more mental. Love it.

I have replaced the o ring in my Chris king headset thanks to the infinite wisdom of @velosaurus
I’ve googled around and I’m told this is supposed to be TIGHT
AND MY GOD IS IT TIGHT
I’m trying to get it over the steerer in one piece - it will not do this
I have greased everything and tapped it - it will not go over the steerer
I have bevelled the tube and made sure it’s smooth
It will not go over the steerer
If I tap it with a hammer it pings apart
I can put all the pieces on individually and compress together, but this feels like a bodge and it does not sit evenly spaced all the way around between the top cup and top cap, don’t want to bodge
Losing my mind
@Qebrus has suggested I turn it all upside down and push it together using the floor as an even press - this will be my next try
Might take it to a shop after that?

Isn't it upside down in the last picture?
-
• #1945
suprisingly no (to my knowledge)
i cannot stress enough how bad the pre griplock chris king headset design is, mr king, please just stop being stubborn and pay the patent - it's lucky it looks so damn GOOD
cane creek 40 fans, PLEASE be quiet

Looks upside down to me too but pic not very hi-res. Edit: maybe not! They are very fiddly to get on the steerer. A bit of lube and rotating as you put it on helps.

I had a ti CK at one time and getting the top bit on was terrible. Just the first bit though.

It's possible that the ED coating on the fork steerer has caused it to be a touch oversized
Boyfriend has given me their old cannon and I’m now taking over exposed auto focused pictures of everything as if I’m a bad 2000s skate photographer
WRT the crosscheck I put the seatpost, saddle and brakes on it last night and have just accepted I will have a very nice cross bike
Also after carrying the homer up 2 flights of stairs and manoeuvring those bars round the aforementioned corner in the flat, the partial weight saving and smaller size will mean it gets ridden more than the homer
Just got to … press on..
