If it's your dad I think it's relatively easy. I did it via a grandparent and it took a while to collate all the info and get copy documentation from a few different sources but it wasn't that bad.
That's all for the foreign birth registration. Once you have that the passport is quite straightforward.
I managed to get the registration in 5 months or so but I think they fast tracked it because I needed it before my baby was born so they could get the option to register too.

my dad and grandparents were born in and around belfast and pretty sure he has his birth certificate handy. would i need more proof to commence the application
wow a 3 year wait, not that i'm in any hurry, might speed up a bit now that covid is receding and workers are getting back to the office
