I wouldn’t go lower than 80 psi on 30mm tyres on a tandem. Flat-spotting the rims is a real thing.

Mega bargain with the Rohloff

Thanks again.
I've done a bit more research which points me to maybe 85/95 (front/rear) -
• #1756
Owner says the motor is 36volt with a 15 amp recovery rate .Does that make sense?
The rear hub is a 14 speed Rohloff gear. -

I'm on a Circe Helios tandem with my 7 year old daughter for the past year. We both love it. Now I've seen that Talbot frameworks one it's an absolute beauty! Reading the building project thread it was clearly a mission but finished product is something else. I live in hope!

I really don't need another tandem, but thats good touring potential right there. GLWS

Don't think I've posted my tandem on here. I made this last year when it was quite clear my first DIY-tandem I made with my friend was a very fun proof of concept but severely lacking in the performance sector.
I got my hands on a Kona Sutra frame that had cracks in the welds were the seatstays joined the seattube. Decided it was the perfect base for a new tandem so I chopped off the rear triangle.
I also got my hands on a DialledBikes ssmtb-frame which wasn't interesting in any way but it had an EBB. Was also pleasantly surprised when the EBB itself was a Phil Wood unit. This frame was cracked in the driveside dropout.
I only used the seattube and bb-shell off of the DialledBikes frame and proceeded to order some tubes. Decided on a Rodriguez style "double diamond double miter" and got to work.
Still a work in progress as I haven't had the time to paint the frameset but looks quite good built up. Bothers me a bit that I didn't just make a properly long stoker toptube but I chose 72cm in the heat of the moment. 76cm would've been better suited for when two 182cm long riders want to go smash a brevet or overnighter camping. It's a better fit for my 167cm tall girlfriend with a longer stem.Yes, the EBB is unconventionally in the rear but couldn't be bothered to move the bb-shells around. Works fine like this. Just bought a tandem crankset so the stokers driveside crank won't be as crowded with a 46-46-34 ring setup.

I, too, am mightily impressed

very good! the forks are tandem specific ?
-
• #1764
Forks are Kona P2 that came with the Sutra. I have more faith in them holding up in tandem use than the OEM Kona 32h wheelset though...
Thanks for the comments!

Lightbicycle wheels.
Standard rims, or did you ask for their reinforced build?
-
• #1768
This looks fast!
-
• #1769
Reinforced for tandem use.
I saw on their site that they had done wheels for a tandem before and asked them about it. I then ordered exactly the same ones as the other guys have been using, with the same modification, so they have been tested.

It's not about the bike!

Looks good.
Wicked set back seatpost! I really appreciate that having spent ages trying to fit my 5'11'' stoker on the back of our new one. -

Nothing to do with me but this looks like an amazing bargain.

You could probably sell the converted motorcycle trailer for most of the asking price.

Agreed on the bargain front, was looking for a trailer to tow the cargo bike on holiday so the perfect deal.
Tandem is going to my brother for his birthday!
Chap selling it was an absolute gent.

Hello! Long-time tandem botherer over here.
I borrowed a dreadful old Apollo(auling) tandem with my partner for a few days in 2017 and fell in love pretty quickly.
We then upgraded to a nice old Orbit Twin just outside of Bristol for £375. We did loads of touring on it in this guise and had lots fun.
(You can read pt. 1 of this story in full here: https://www.bikeradar.com/features/riding-a-tandem-is-dumb-and-you-should-try-it/
Then, just before OG lockdown, I did a full refurbish and got the bike much as you see it here.
Key swaps included a more upright cockpit, a totally refreshed drivetrain and faster tyres (GravelKing SS+). I also added a set of bar-ends for Laura to give her another hand position. Full specs:
Frameset: Mid-nineties Orbit Twin
Rear derailleur: Shimano Deore XT RD-M772, 9-speed
Front derailleur: Shimano Deore XT M780
Cranksets: Shimano XT FCM730 tandem crankset
Cassette: Shimano Acera CS-HG400 11-36
Chain: Three (three!) Shimano CN HG-53 chains
Shifters: Shimano Dura-Ace SL-BS77 bar-end shifters
Pedals: Crankbrothers Stamp 3
Brakes: Shimano Deore XT BR-T780
Drag brake: Arai drag brake
Brake levers: Shimano Deore T610
Cockpit (captain): Nitto MT-11 stem, Nitto B352 Albatross handlebars
Cockpit (stoker): Specialized tandem stem, Nitto B2522AA handlebars
Wheelset: DCR Tandem hubs, Sun Ringle Rhyno-Lite rims (40h)
Tyres: Continental Contact Plus 42mm
Mudguards:SKS Bluemels B65
Racks: Blackburn OutpostFull write up: https://www.bikeradar.com/features/bikeradar-builds-jacks-refurbished-touring-tandem-cecil/
We have since got out on one big 12-day tour around south/mid-Wales (image below) and enjoyed lots of stupid hike-a-bike rides with it in the Mendips: https://www.instagram.com/p/CWa0_JZsLdV/
We've got a big jolly around the outer Hebrides planned for September and, other than trying to get an even larger cassette on there, the bike will remain largely the same. We're both from Scotland but this will actually be Laura's first tour there.

Nice. That thing is a unit.
When I first started tubeless about 7 years ago I was using 25s at 100psi and that was never a problem.
