  • Sure, but a family estate can easily be 1800kg and an entry level trolley jack might be rated at 1500kg.
    It’s just worth checking.

  • surely the answer is buy a 2 tonne jack.

as you are only lifting one axle, it's going to be fine.

  • Unless the car was intentionally parked in your way that sounds like a pretty poor move to not own up to causing his break down.

  • My Yoko experience, Don't last long but grip was amazing, not bad in the wet but same as every other tyre on greasy dirty roads that have had rain after long dry spells.

    Brilliant tyre on a manta and a aw11 mr2

EDIT my Yoko experience is over a decade ago so no relevance to today.

  • Yes, especially when adding the general junk you cart around. Have learnt to be careful using trolley jacks as I have the jacks sink in to tarmac before.

I'd get a used ice hockey puck to go on jack to lessen any metal to metal contact.

  • Or just get the correct pad, being the other option, but that might score you fewer regurgitated forum post points. For fucks sake.

  • yes, that's true.

we were just a bunch of teenagers and didn't think like that.

  • I've often thought of using trolley jacks for that purpose. Maybe one also needs some strips of carpet to ease their passage.

  • Tyre dolly's make moving a vehicle easier. Should not be using a trolley jack for that as Id be wary of jack sinking in and or wheels getting caught. Also looking at the wheels on a jack how many non commercial jacks have bearings on the wheels? Usually metal to metal contact.

More concerned if it is my car that would be damaged.

  • How often do you replace the oil in your jacks people?
Do you check for a leaking ram everytime you use your jack?

  • Home, bed.

  • Almost made me want to buy the car

  • If you believe everything you read.

  • Strange mechanical, any ideas? Abarth 500 windscreen washer not working. Fuse is fine and pump is running. No obvious leaks. Obviously I checked the fluid levels, when I brim it, I get fluid for about 5 seconds, then it dies off. Brim again and it repeats, sprays for 5 seconds then nothing. Same front and rear. Stumped, but I am assuming pump needs replacement.

  • Breather tube for bottle blocked? Leave the cap off and try then?

  • Any forum members own a crankshaft pulley removal tool that they’d consider lending me? Swapping out the pulley on my 1960 Minor and don’t really fancy buying a remover tool right now. Something along the lines of this would be ideal

  • Two or three legged puller should do it

  • 2,000Km of grime took some removing, and a van takes a while to clean.

  • But what a result. Great things with black cars is the look awesome after a wash. The negative side is they look less great after even a normal wether day or 2 :)

  • Seems less likely to be a pump issue if it's working as long as it's full.

Is the pump still running but nothing comes out?

If so, check the pipework in and out.

Normally the pump lives at the bottom of the washer bottle and it's gravity fed. However you might have a more complicated method that needs bleeding.

My other suggestion is something crimped or squished between the bottle and the pump and only when the bottle is full is there enough weight of liquid to force it through to the pump.

  • Thanks for that, I'm now thinking the same way. Thought the pump was damaged but your theory seems more likely. Pump runs, but nothing coming out. Problem is access to the reservoir is very limited, possibly front bumper off. Other thought is it could be gunged up.

  • Many moons ago a colleague's Fiesta was doing this. I was able to access the pump and remove it. The bottom quarter of the washer bottle was gummed up with gelatinous goo from the screenwash he'd been using. As your access is limited run a hose pipe in the reservoir and flush any badness out and periodically try the washers. It might resolve your issue. Be aware not all cars allow you to use wipers with the bonnet open.
