• have any brits here applied for an irish passport ? was it easy to do ?

  • Me. Well, to the Foreign Birth Registration anyway, and citizenship comes after that. You need documentation for your parents and/or grandparents which can be a little bit annoying to get. Other than that I just had to provide some proof of address and pay £200.

There is a big backlog though due COVID. I applied in October '19 and they haven't got to my application yet

  • It's amazing how difficult getting an Irish passport has become. When I first got mine (admittedly 30 yrs ago), you just had to tick a box on the form saying one grandparent had been born on the island of Ireland - didn't even need to state their names, never mind provide documentation.
