Ducati had the same problem in the US with some bikes plastic tanks. Odd as it wasn't just one model of bike and not all bikes.

Ethanol made the tank expand apparently. 1098 has / had it in the US.

Not just the 1098, from memory.

EDIT: the crosser and some monster tanks had issues. But being the US different legal rules apply.
