  • Stupid question alert!

How do you know when shoes are too small? I have replaced an existing pair of Trickers shoes with the exact same model but 0.5 size smaller (sale price I couldn't pass up on).

Clearly they are 'box fresh' and feeling stiffer/snugger in general, and I am trying to figure out where and how much they are likely to stretch. Also, what are the tell-tale signs that they are just too tight and should be returned?

  • Can you wiggle your toes? Do your feet splay over the sides of the soles? Do your toes touch the end of the shoes already? If so, sack them off. Generally my rule is if at any point my toes touch the end of the shoes, they're too small. I have 2E width feet so my issue is generally width rather than length. Length is the easy bit when buying shoes IMO, it's things like last shape and width that matter more.

  • I can wiggle my toes and believe there is space between the big toe and end of shoes. Some slight pinching/snugness by the little (pinky?) toe which is the key point I am unsure on. General shoe is snugger feeling than my other pair although to be expected for 0.5 size bigger and 6+ years of wear.
