They literally do, they did out place and not only do they have their own in-house builders the architects are makers too, which may be part of the problem - an inability to delegate/trust others.

Oh right!
Sounds like fingers in too many pies, to me.

this is probably true, It's hard to wear may hats. And if you want project management, don't ask an architect :)
-
• #2605
Well that might be true but phase 4 is simply the completed drawings and costs etc so this actually doesn’t require any building and hasn’t changed since July last year… they are saying they cannot do this for a further 6m. So not asking an architect to be a PM fine but how about asking them to be an architect?

That's the galling bit. Also they will have known for ages they couldn't do it, but just ignored it and pussied out of telling you until now.
-
• #2607
Yes it is a bit strange that design drawings are delayed like that. However that's is also where costing/quoting comes in, and that is an issue atm.

Internal doors - I am looking to put in a ply door (nowhere-near-40k-kitchen will have ply cupboards) like the pic below. The only ply doors I can find are the very cheap and most basic ones which seem to be sold as 'ready to paint' sort of like this - my guess is that these will be hollow and lightweight. I just can't find anything nicer! Anyone got any links/recs/places to look?
Cheers

Can't help, but anecdotally had the same pain trying to find a quality, plain/flush solid door. They're just not available.
Ended up with one we would have never chosen - too light, really. However, it has painted up really nicely so I eat my words a bit.

Yeah I think all the forum chat makes everyone's mental imagine default to nice baltic birch with a matt Danish oil finish, rather than mid-reddy-naff-brown.
The obvious solution is to just paint it or add a laminate that matches your cabinets. Even if that laminate is say a 5mm layer of the same type of ply as your cupboards.
Nice neat hinges and fitting combined with the right door furniture will stop it looking shit.

Thanks for this, that's really useful. I'd really rather not have to fuss with laminating a door myself, and pretty sure the builder isn't going to want to, but it is an option I guess!

Told the plasterer to make sure he squares all the reveals off the window frames. He’s done it in about one out of three windows.
Fucking sick of dealing with the twat.

Have you tried looking for a fire door?

Find a joinery shop that can laminate thin birch ply to a solid core door. Very common to skin and lip blanks with hardwood veneer. You want the best finish grade ply tho to avoid patches / knots etc

This - two sheets of decent mm birch ply (quite spenny these days) glued/laminated and then cut to your side would do it. i've used balls pond joinery for a few sheets of ply cut up before and they've been pretty good.
(potentially useless recommendation depending where you are)

I have, but I hadn't seen anything as nice as that one! Sadly they have none available in the size I need, but will see what else I can find, cheers.

Thanks, will look into it. I don't suppose you have any idea off the top of your head what a door's worth of high quality ply laminate might be likely to set me back? Budget is very much a motivating factor here...

I'm London, so this is certainly relevant. Same question as above, any very rough idea what likely cost might be for the laminate?

New kitchen is 90% installed! Still need to do tiling, plumb the sink, wire the oven, plumb the hob, get a slimline dishwasher to install and put a new top on the wall section behind the sink but it looks like a kitchen! Very pleased indeed :)

Question - Are those both ovens, an oven and a microwave or some other magic?
-

Oven on top and a microwave below!
They're actually from Ikea, both are MATÄLSKARE models, but when I was doing some homework I discovered Ikea whitegoods are made by Whirlpool and have a 5year warranty so seemed like a sensible option at a relative budget (not the cheapest option but definitely not expensive). -

If you want it to match birch ply kitchen fronts - I was thinking 4 or 6mm birch ply sheet which might cost £150-200 or so these days. add a solid core blank door say £100 add joinery costs for gluing it and lipping the edges.
Actual veneer doors are available in crown cut birch here - but might not match your fronts - guess you'd have to see a sample. https://www.doorpac.co.uk/product/doors-doorsets-internal-fire-rated-acoustic-certifire/veneered-flush-doors-architectural
Or might be worth looking in a local jewsons - these premdoor blanks look like birch ply but you'd have to see one IRL https://www.google.com/search?q=birch+veneer+door&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj9oqjOvuH1AhWOXsAKHRIJB-QQ_AUoAnoECAEQBA&biw=1354&bih=1338&dpr=1#imgrc=JvPq1gXx30kXnM

Best online planning tool for bathroom?
yes, but a design & build might have. They are something in between architects with a joinery/cnc workshop.
These days any small scale builder will announce delays and it is very easy for them to focus on a bigger account that carries some weight and many sites, can help them re-shuffle teams between jobs, etc.
