Be interesting to see how the more rural Tory voters act when we get to the end of the CAP-alike taper (by which time I imagine that farmers currently just about breaking even will have packed it in).
Whilst it’s true that there’s no new money for levelling up, and indeed funding for the regions is now at 40% or what it was when we were in the EU people believe that levelling up means transfer of wealth from South to North, which to be fair it would do, if it were actually real.
Close down the rural economy in the Southern boroughs that vote solidly Tory whilst sending their taxes to the North and see how long the vote holds up.
Right- but culture war stuff fades away when it’s your job in the farm shop which just got canned because the farmland has been turned into an inheritance tax dodge/rewilding project and fox-hunting area.
