  • So I have some isolated wiring in my loft that used to power an electric shower that has been removed.

It currently goes down to a 40A breaker on my RCD unit. I'm never going to refit an electric shower here so would prefer to repurpose the cabling to add a plug socket to power lighting and network equipment in the loft space.

Can I power a single double gang plug from its own breaker if I lower the fuse rating?

  • I've done something very similar. In my case it is the feed to the old immersion and there is a 15A fuse wire in the fuse box (I believe the term consumer unit is a lot younger than the fuse box that circuit is on).

I fitted a single gang 13A plug as that was what there was room for. Annoyingly the back box had machine screw threads that don't match the current ones, presumably imperial, so I had to swap that too.
