Went into the Hackney shop (closest Marin dealer) to order a Marin free hub for my 650b wheels (Marin hubs) because there is slack and creak in the free hub. (I bought the wheels it from here) Took the wheel in first time, the staff insisted to ask me to bring the whole bike in and I did.
What happened:
My bike got joy ridden by 3 staffs to "test ride", then mechanic didn't know how to lock the clutch on an apex 1 rear mech when putting a wheel in, stripped the b screw thread.... Then they told me they didn't have time to look at the free hub and refused to admit it was their problem because my derailleur cage is slightly bent. One of the staff was trying to tell me off because my headset is "overtightened" saying my bike is so wrong and I shouldn't have pretended to know what to do.
Now I have to replace my rear mech when it wasn't a problem, and the free hub thing was ignored completely. I understand checking the whole drivetrain is necessary but shouldn't they check the free hub fist when that was the task on the bill?
I was completely tripped out. The person at the counter even said "I couldn't care less about your bike"

Get a quote from a different shop, and send the original fools an invoice threatening to take them to small claims court (it’s all online now apparently). I wouldn’t let them touch my bike again.

Wouldn’t let them touch my bike again for sure. I was so disgusted that they put the blame on me immediately.

The rudest c*nts I’ve ever met in the mare st shop. Went in the other day to get some spokes, knowing exactly that type and length I needed. Some fat jerk on the desk spoke to me like I was an idiot.. and it was a huge chore for him to take 2 seconds to look out the back of the completely empty shop. Fingers crossed Balfes put them out of business shortly.

Closing down:
we have sadly decided to enter into a programme which will involve the
closure of each of Velorution's four shops and its website -

It is hard to be annoyed at them for taking payment for stuff online then not despatching it and not responding to enquiries, but it is a bit annoying as they had offered it for sale still so it would be reasonable to expect fulfilment or refund.
It is a pretty shitty for all the staff losing their jobs so I appreciate motivation is likely to be rock bottom.

Here are some Velorution pixie boots on ebay, in case you want a fond memory of the brand. No doubt these are worn by their most VVIP customers such as David Beckham. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/395028328415?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=GGXHnzRsTAm&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=0PDdBtKRSKe&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Who makes a boot like that and then thinks “spd sl”?

Someone who thinks their customers are mugs.

his customers and his staff were treated like mugs for sure . I think the two vehicles that hit their stores were driven by ex employees :)
Hmm, I just ordered an item showing as in stock, and now I'm told it's not going to be available for some indefinite time. Not the biggest problem, but now I find my credit card has been charged for the full amount - a couple of hundred quid. And the item is still showing as being in stock.
