They’re great, aren’t they? Sometimes they hide in hedgerows and you can hear them chuckling to themselves.

One of the kids has a class on Saturday mornings, in a place where there's nothing to do but (or at least nothing I would rather do than) skulk around in the trees looking for birds. Happy to find this Cooper's hawk today.

Went out for a short walk with Luddlet #2 this evening, saw a couple of herons, reed buntings and, as a special treat, a owl and then a other owl.

What is the motivation for farmers to string up dead corvids along paths? I just removed the body of a dead jackdaw hanging suspended by its neck in the crook of two branches right next to a small footpath bridge. This is the third dead corvid I’ve found suspended in a tree in the local area recently and it just seems a shame. I know it’s legal for farmers to shoot corvids under certain circumstances but why hang the bodies so obviously?

Probable poisoned so predators will also succumb . Gets round the law of shooting raptors. I would contact your local police wildlife officer and get clarification. Will dm you when i find out
It’s an old-fashioned habit of gamekeepers - it was intended to demonstrate to the landowner that his keepers were doing their jobs. A bit like moles on fences

Just saw a hawk in action, it didn't stay there and dropped the pigeon as it flew off.
