Squires are an odd one because they hold thier value so well, people on Bass Chat are asking essentially new prices for their Squires (with the exception of maybe the Affinity series).
It depends on the standard of instrument you're used to playing - if you play them side by side with something higher end you can see/feel/hear why they're cheaper, but equally, they're good enough for most people. And of course, no audience members (outside of other bassists) will ever be able to tell the difference.

Left field suggestion but Cort make some really lovely basses that are far better than they deserve to be a the price...
They change their models specs quite often and this particular one is hard enough to find but there's one for sale here...I'd struggle to look past one of these at that pricepoint...
Honorable mention to vintage Ibanez Blazer/ Roadstar or Peavey Fury (USA made) if you can find one, they're often to be had for around that sort of money and they're excellent!
Doing man maths for the new bass purchase. Sold my 2007 Squier Jazz for £200 so i have. head start on budget... thing is, money is tight at the moment and I'm really not a bass player any more so the use per £ equation is against me. I only "need" a bass for occasional home recording. Never thought I'd go back to buying new Squiers at this point in my life, but man £310, for either of these Classic Vibe Ps looks like a great price. A £110 spend to bring home a decent looking new bass vs... ? I can't find a s/h Fender P for under £600.
