Ok well the v brake idea did not happen in the end, i made the fork legs too wide, but thats ok i just got a disc wheel off @MCamb (thanks!), welded a disc tab on and was good to go. Maiden voyage to the pub yesterday evening was extremely successful.
Handling feels a bit twitchy but pretty much fine, not really sure what these kind of bikes are meant to ride like. Was a 90 min rounds trip to the pub and back and by the end of it i was really having fun, its just a really fun bike to ride. Brakes felt excellent, more than enough stopping power. Singlespeed was surprising good as well, its a pretty small gear so spinny on the flat but great over the hills. Forced me to take it easy which is no bad thing.
Ive gotta find a nicer box tho, and some way of holding stuff down inside it as there was a bit of rattling goin on. I may also just do a platform but have run out of steel to make it out of. I think i will also build some more forks with different geometry, i reckon some more rake and a bit of a-c would help it feel a bit more steady.
