I suppose the only tiny crumb is that there may be an offence now being investigated that’s not just a summary offence? Misconduct in public office, perverting the course of justice, etc… Someone trained in legalese please correct me.

Today, a bill is going through the house of common to get our language, British Sign Language, a legal status.
I hope it won’t get voted down cause it is introduced from a labour MP, knowing how the Tory are.

Should go through as Tories aren't there on a Friday, all back in their constituencies

I don't get the argument that they don't want it released so as not to prejudice the investigation. It's not like it is going before a Jury, so assume the Met don't want public opinion against them when they decide it doesn't mean the threshold for prosecution.

It better! Be nice to be able to have much more access in everyday life than before.

Always meant to say that your comments re Youtube and captions were something that I'd never considered. A simple thing to add to allow deaf people to enjoy the content.

Not in the news - starvation in Afghanistan has been pushed aside by the dog rescue authorisation story. UN says more than 20 million people at risk, exacerbated by drought.
I don't really understand how much is caused by international sanctions and frozen assets, nor whether that can or should be undone, but DEC and others saying charities and agencies are working unobstructed on the ground. Please consider donating if you can https://www.dec.org.uk/

Cressida Dick and the Met are so fucking incompetent. Don't investigate, then decide to when someone else has done the legwork, then say it's OK to release the report, then change their mind and get loads of it redacted. Still no idea how this is going to play out, but the whole partygate affair has lurched from one embarrassing clusterfuck to another.
-
• #70460
I think they're going to get away with it all and the mental silent Tory majority of voters will vote the fuckers back in again
-
• #70461
Incompetent, or complicit?
-
• #70462
The former probably, because a savvy Commissioner would’ve understood that doing this would lead to accusations of complicity and timed it in such a way as to avoid falling into that very large elephant trap.
-
• #70463
Yeah, feels like massive incompetence still, but the result is just the same.
-
• #70464
Still, think how much worse everything would be if our rulers were competent.
-
• #70465
But we know they had parties and gatherings. It’s a fact so why would they want to remove it.

It's all redolent of the committee inquiry into the handling of the Salmon affair, and the parallel Hamilton report. The Police investigation into leaks around the committee and SG seems to have come to nothing.
Sturgeon didn't resign despite the committee stating that she had misled the assembly. Hamilton expressed concern about the level of redaction in the public copy of his report.
At least Boris can't hide behind the identification of witnesses in a prior criminal trial.

So this

• #70469
Surely that is a failure on the part of the Labour party to offer a credible opposition over the past decade?
-
• #70470
If by credible you mean right-of-centre, racist, posh-boys that middle england demand of their rulers
-
• #70471
Blaming the voters is not a plan to effect change.
-
• #70472
Nope I agree blaming voters being constructive and yes to your point about opposition, at least partially (as some of the media agenda is not exactly favourable). Surely a more effective strategy might have been to infiltrate the Conservative party itself over decades and shift it from the inside, as there are still ingrained loyalties that cannot be reasoned with in some demographics (not an entirely serious suggestion - but how do you shift someone who will still vote for any old thing with a blue rosette regardless?). Or something... Maybe violent revolution as a plan b?
Blaming the turkeys that actually vote for Christmas does make me feel better on occasion though.

It’s much bigger than that, it sound simple but really held us back for hundreds of years, BSL is only just recognised by thr government in 2003.

Sorry didn't mean to underplay the seriousness of this, just wanted to say that your advocacy made me rethink my assumptions around something as simple as YouTube.

One of the voting intention polls that doesn't have the 'don't know' option had the Tories only about 4 points behind labour, so, yes - this.
Still not sure that Johnson will get away with this completely* - he is damaged goods now - but how seriously/long term the Tories will be impacted is sadly not going to be much. Only 'hope' is that this on top of cost of living increases etc still cumulatively wears their support down.*Obviously long term he's going to get away with it as he will end up with ££££ from writing and speaking gigs, but I can't really bear thinking about that.
I reckon that’s the point. We already know it’s a sham. So corruptly delaying or burying it is the least worst option.
