It’s a bit fucked . So unless someone wants a huge bargain on here I’ll probably pop it on eBay as a project.

Was about to head off to get it when I realised it’s fricken mikes away. Turns out there’s two Rainhams and it’s in the “other one” in Essex. It’s on Facebook marketplace with the model name now on the listing if anyone wants it.

Couple of nice new Fender releases. I like the MIJ "JV" style 60's modded Tele in firemist gold, rosewood, double bound:

And also the maybe-slightly-too-luxe anniversary Jaguars.

Loving the colour and the 'thick soft v' spec and 9.5" radius on that Tele. Would prefer vintage frets but I'm probably alone on that.
Golly, MIJ is spendy now though... I still think of a Japanese bound 62 Custom Tele as basically a £600 guitar. Sigh.

Yeah. It's across the whole Fender range now though. Some MIM creeping up to a grand, etc. In fact the MIM artist models are often quite a bit over a grand.

I know right?
What are the the relative attributes of various fret size? I’ve never really been clear on it. My tele has huge looking jumbo frets on it and I’ve often wondered about trying something less chonky

Just sold my Squire J bass… someone sell me a cheap and cheerful P bass please!
-
• #12590
I don't really need another P-bass but I keep looking at those cheap bolt-it-together-yourself kits on Thomann, you don't get much cheaper than them & the one their demo person on YouTube plays sounds great (though I would be tempted to drop a new wiring loom in & maybe change the pick-up later)!

(I'm also trying to remember how to read music at the moment & learning that bass line as I've never gotten round to it previously).

Not crazy about matching headstocks but love a block inlay on a JM/Jag. Also have an unusual liking for Teles with a binding, I'm into those.
In other Tele news, I'm hoping to get the Tele body I've had for a while finished and stained in the next few weeks. I have a maple-fretboarded neck to go with it. What would your colour suggestions be? I'm thinking about a reddish/fairly dark brown colour for the body to pair with a black scratchplate... 🤔

Are tight-radius fretboards a "thing" at the moment? Lots of people enthusing about them all over the place.

Nice version. I went though a Jamerson obsession backwhen i was a gigging bass player. Learned loads of stuff from a book at the time. Might still have it somewhere...
Just had my head turned by this:

Hadn't clocked that but wouldn't be surprised. My Tele is 7.5" and I've long been used to 'vintage' radius but getting the action sweet without choking, esp. on the top E, is a pernicketty affair on this guit... slightly more than usual - not that I'm much of a string-bender, but the potential to get a slightly lower action would be nice. Hence fancying a go at 9.5" I suppose.
I know sometimes clever repairfolk can file a touch of compound radius into the upper reaches of a board, maybe I should look into it...

I don’t really notice fretboard radius when I’m playing, but 9.5” isn’t a particularly tight radius, is it? It’s standard for most modern Fenders, and shouldn’t choke out on the bends.

Standing in the Shadows of Motown?
That's what I'm working through at the moment, problem is my sight reading is so bad I end up just working basslines out from listening every time!If you like tele-style basses I think the Sire D5's look really good:

Some kits are obviously really high quality, but I picked up a <£100 kit a few years ago ('Saga' - looked very similar photos to those Harley Benton ones, don't know if they're the same) and whilst it was fun and cheap and I got something decent looking to lean in the corner of the room, it wasn't playable. It would have needed at least a fret dress and setup to play properly; and if I'd have started into it, also a new nut and tuners.
The one she's playing has a decal on the headstock, which suggests at least that it's been given to some one to tart up for the video.
edit - don't want to put you off. I would get one again, as it's good fun to build your own thing, but just be aware that the quality might be quite variable.

Mostly a feel/personal preference thing isn’t it. Vintage frets catch me out now. Feels a little odd to me, the way you contact the wood of the fretboard way more. But I’m sure it’s mostly what you’re used to.
One thing that is quite noticeable is the way that pressing down harder with jumbo frets bends the pitch way more than vintage because they’re higher. I guess narrow-tall does the same.

Yeah it's £100, they're that price for a reason & I've got decent basses. But if the question is cheap P bass, you don't get a lot cheaper than those. Plus it's a bit of fun to build.
I did see a video of her one being made, I don't know if the guy is a luthier or just a friend but is a pretty stock version of one of those kits.
Precisions are so basic I kind of feel if you're confident with being able to set-up a bass, how bad can they really be?
We'll see - they're on my list of fun ways to fritter away £100, so they'll get their chance eventually!

Yes! Must be the only instance of a music book inspiring a movie. I can’t read for shit so found myself in exactly the same boat.
As far as I'm aware, it's got 2 x ECC83 for preamp, and 1 x ECC82 for the power amp.
