    If you're putting a child seat on it, it's difficult to go wrong with a 90s-onward rigid frame mountain bike. The added frame stiffness and longer wheelbase makes the bike a lot more stable when the child seat is on. They do come in large sizes, but they're not so common and you might have to look for a while until one comes up. Your budget will be easy peasy for a nice frame, set of strong wheels and an ex higher-end set of gears like 10-speed SRAM X0.

  • I'll look into this. Used to ride mountain bikes when I was a kid in the 90s. I'll dig out my old copies of MBUK and see what Kona's and DMRs were cool back then.
