  • After the madjax, which is ace, I'm not sure.
I can get my 2 (11 and 5) in there. Its a squeeze but it does for short trips to swimming etc. Eldest or youngest fits on their own and is good for longer trips.

I need some sort of longer steerer tube setupthat doesn't involve two CK headsets.

Also. Do those sartori set ups always get wobbly/loose?

  • Nice one gents. That madjax looks like a great solution.

I have given the Terns some thought @amey especially with your passionate ratification of them.
But I much prefer the weight down low and in front if me.
My favourite part of the school trip is hearing them point out stuff in front, up high and to the sides of them. With them sat behind they’re going to lose out on that view and my guesstimate is that at 6ft4 the front most child is going to have the worst view imaginable with the seat post angle taking you further back the higher you go.

  • Is it going to be unreasonably expensive to get a super long steerer and a custom ~18inch spacer made?
I think I could benefit from going higher than the ez-up goes.

  • Depends if you need adjustability or not, if you know exactly what height and extension you need get it made- haiku bikes, the vandal metalworks to name a couple of forum framebuilders who might be able to help you out!

Or get a more standard looking stem and some wild bars made

  • I have a gsd ar 6’7” and the seatpost angle does take away a little space but still plenty of room for 2 kids. I think they get a great view as quite high up despite me being in the way a bit and we have some great chats when out and about - though the storm box when on in winter limits this a bit, as do busy roads/traffic noise.

  • Yeah the chats are the best part about any cargo bike. Good to know it’s not too inhibiting. Will try out my brother in laws tern-like.

  • I have no idea, but if you explore the option I will follow.

    @MCamb

  • What I mean is, don’t get a super long steerer, get a super long stem or some bars that put your brands where you want them made

  • not a bad idea with something like this:

  • Its more the bars clonk the taller child on the head. A longer stem or bars would be proper "ow, sorry."

  • Taller stem or bars? Like going straight up? Skies the limit…

    (But a threadless vsn)

  • I think the best solution for bigger kids is to teach them how to ride a bicycle on their own.

  • Yes this is the most ideal solution, but sometimes big kids need lifts to places too, and the complexity of riding through certain areas (in london anyway!) where you might feel unsafe or anxious about a less experienced rider navigating independently makes putting them in your bike quite an attractive prospect.

Also when I had a mahoosive cargo bike id often find myself carrying my gf and son who both have their own bikes places. It’s just convenient, like having a car I guess.

  • That was not meant to be taken serious. :-)

I made this setup for my daughter, but i guess that is not practical if you want to fit two kids next to each other.

  • Hah sorry I’m never sure how serious people are being or not on this forum😆.

I’m always admiring that bike, Love the seat and bullmoose handlebar 👌

  • No, it’d be pretty cheap.

The raw materials would be something like £10 a foot from the supplier I use, Lasaero. If you just want a steerer and a spacer then you need some 1 1/8” x 0.058” or 0.065” and some 1 1/4” x 0.058”. A decent bahco tube cutter to cut it to size will be +/- £20 and maybe a file to deburr. You might even be able to buy the exact length you need, I usually buy it by the full foot.

Lasaero will sell you as little as a single 1ft length and shipping isn’t ridiculous but it’ll take them a few weeks to get the stock in probably.

Peter (Ceeway) might have the 1 1/8” stuff, if he did it’d be even cheaper but the 1500mm lengths he sells it in probably wouldn’t even bring you up to minimum order value.

I could do the cutting etc for you but I don’t think I have any/enough of that length of tubing in stock so would need to order it.

It’s raw chromoly steel so you’d need to think about paint or whatever to keep the rust at bay.

I could also make you a stem if you decide to go that way, probably not zero reach as I’ve never thought up a way to be able to preload the headset but could figure out something to get you where you need to be.

  • probably not zero reach as I’ve never thought up a way to be able to preload the headset

Braze a disc into the tube to seat the bolt against before you add the bar clamp, no? The back of the clamp needs an access hole obvs, same for the front or a removable faceplate

  • Yeah, I agree.
I also like talking to my eldest after she's done an hour of swimming as she's super fucking chill and sometimes we get to eat chips on the way home while laughing at people in cars.

  • Ok....
I like this massive talll steerer tube chat.

  • You are august aicmfp

  • You got me! I actually thought I was signed in as my wife’s account that makes it pretty obvious.

    Would you take an IOU?!

  • This is perfect 👌

  • yes.... how much is the question here.

  • @boisb not going to help with the width but there appears to be a solution* to the legroom issue on the way from LvH
