  • @BrickMan Continuing the Hunt chat...I've just received the replacement freehub, but wont turn at all with the end caps lightly nipped up. Tried the seal in both orientations and it's the same. Just tried without the rubber seal and it works perfectly...Seen this before? Their online support chat asked me to fill out a warranty form...

Ignore that, I was being an idiot 🤦‍♂️

  • Saw them . Postage is steep.

  • if it makes any difference to you they're a good company though. Owner is a rider and they support cyclocross by putting on races and such.

  • Oh ok then i will get two sets seeing as my wheel was rubbing tonight waiting for a dock bridge to lower .

  • Sorted it yeah?

Sometimes user error can be a factor lol. This week think I've had at least 3 every single day, freehub body failure, all kinds of brands, all kinds of bikes. Main common component, folk who like to wash their bikes a lot lol. All easy to fix though haha. Some kind of a record I think! Cold weather means any moisture trapped inside freezes and causes havoc.

  • Might need some new wheels for my old 3x7 speed bike. Am I ok to look for modern wheelsets and add spacers?

  • Sometimes user error can be a factor lol

In my process of eliminating the issue I forgot to pop the freehub spacer back on 🙈 Glad I can use the wheelset again for winter duties instead of my carbon set.

  • Check the OLD of the existing rear hub. Modern rim wheel will be 130mm, yours might be 126mm

  • Quite a similar question to @exteroceptive’s above.

I have a 3x7 deore xt/exage groupset and a 130 spaced frame. Cassette appears to be splined similarly to modern 11spd. Do I need a 7spd mtb hub with a freehub? Sheldon suggests this will be 130mm OLD. Would a 5/6/7spd road hub be 126 spaced and built for a different cassette?

  • I'm currently using a wheelset from a 2015 hybrid that came with a tiagra triple, so I think 130 should be ok.

  • Assuming your kit uses Hyperglide rather than Uniglide, the splines will be the same pattern for 7-11 speed. The difference will be a 7 speed freehub will be narrower than 8-10 (road) or 8-11 (MTB).
7 speed Hyperglide hubs should be available in 130mm or 135mm spacings and your 7 speed cassette should fit on either.

  • Just replaced my chain. Chain exactly the same length. KMC X11S swapped with Shimano HG601-11.

Didn't think this cassette was worn enough to cause the severe skipping under load. Am I wrong?

  • Am I wrong?

If it's skipping under load then yeah.

  • Bikes man, I'm guna be living in a box soon. I'll just put the old chain back on.

  • Yeah, they'll work fine together for a bit longer, you got a chain wear guage? They're pretty accurate at telling you if you've waited too long to change it and fucked the cassette.

  • Not yet but I'll order with the new cassette if such a thing exists. Cheers.

  • 11 speed are hard to get at the moment, I think there are some 11-28 105 at the workshop if you get stuck.

  • Cheers for this.

Now to find out if it’s hyper glide or uniglide. First time I’ve ever built anything with shimano so I’ve got no clue about any of this

  • Thanks!

It’s HG so looks like I can use a more common 8/9/10 hub with a spacer

  • I'm trying to get my gears set up.

Ht2 BB on a 73mm shell. 1 spacer on drive side.
    Zee cranks with surly chainring
    Xt rear mech
10sp cassette (I'm trying to get an 11-40 working so pushing the mech a little)
When I shift into the biggest rear cog it drops the chain at the front. Even just spinning the cranks on the workstamd does it. It's like the chain angle is too much.
    What's going wrong.

  • A few turns and this happens

  • Only in that gear?
If it's not a chainline issue (which from the sounds of it could be) maybe you have a twisted link in there somewhere?

  • Nothings wrong. Angle is just too extreme. Either slap a N/W ring on there, or get a chain guide.

I’d start by throwing the chainring inside the spider and see if it helps the chain stay on.

One of the main complaints by customers running 1x10+ systems.
