Apparently the building control did visit as the property as development is a wee bit contentious with the neighbours. Turns out that because the entire roof was constructed without scaffolding the inspector could only do his job from the ground floor, and presumably left with a large, brown envelope in his pocket.

Down here I have used both, the council one was a real stickler for the rules, with zero flex from the regs, the third party one would literally sign anything off. Could really do with something in the middle...
