Works goodly then, that's me told. I guess the difference in chain tension isn't enough to derail it on the rough stuff.
I've never used an oval chainring but I don't think there is any difference in chain tension - half the teeth on the chainring are engaged with the chain at a time whether the chainring is oval or round.
