On the autoroutes 130km is fine, and you can do it for hundreds of km without slowing sometimes (three Christmases ago I drove from Calais to Le Mans without seeing a single other vehicle).
Péages are too much of a slowdown even with the Bip&Go tag. I once got chased by the police out of one when I roared out of the gate and shot up the motorway past everyone else. When they caught up and I was quietly doing 130 in a queue of other cars they kept going for a bit and then turned the sirens off.France is huge though, and 130 is only 80mph. I wish the limits were higher. If you’re heading to Italy, Switzerland or Austria going through Germany is so much faster.
I was averaging 130kph for hours yesterday. Makes a big difference to how practical it is to travel long distances vs the uk, where I’d average (in London) 10kph and (out of London) 80kph.
I do wish my van had a 100 litre tank, 70 is a bit low.
