  • Love to watch some steel glueing. Subbed!

  • Thanks! Your new one is quite similar, great for commuting.

  • That is what I love to see in other people's threads so glad it's not just me.

  • Also following for chopping/welding content.

  • yeah really enjoying your thread, excited to see the longtail come together!

  • I've been looking at the surly big dummy and big fat dummy for inspiration but a lot of design decisions have been as I have gone along.

A 29" wheel might not have been the first choice for wheel but it's allowed me to have a slightly shorter chainstays but keep the same length of cargo area. It will put the cargo slightly higher, which probably makes more difference to handling than the wheelbase but who knows.

The only bit I drew out was to see how much the rear dropout would move up by extending the chainstays. It worked out about 30mm. I wanted to get a rigid fork and found a 26" dirt jump one that had 30mm less a2c than the original suspension. This has worked out great as it has lowered the BB to a more cargo friendly height but still kept the headtube and seat tube angle.

  • I wasn't sure how to do the new wishbone. Ended up copying the original and having it right up at the seat tube. It looks a bit cluttered and might have been better with a longer big tube that met where the seat stay bridge is.

  • Adding the next tubes was a little tricky as the dropouts aren't designed to have anything like this. I've used the mudguard mount to braze too. It's a bit of weak spot in the design so I'm planning to add more support. I wasn't sure if the chain would clear in the highest gear but it looks like it might just work out.

  • I love a fork bodge. Are those rear tubes for the rack?

  • this is looking awesome, the double wishbones are great.

  • Thanks it has worked out really well, a real stroke of luck. Yes it's going to have a large rear pannier rack over the wheel.

  • Haha thanks. Yes i quite like it. I just hadn't thought of doing it another way until after I had finished it, so then the other way seemed the best.

  • Got a big set of rotors, as I read on the cargo bikes thread that big brakes are a good. Maybe not great with quick release.

I still need to get a new cassette. This one is 34t but might get a 36t. Although I think I read close ratios on a cargo bike are nice. I guess I need to see what I can find in stock.

  • Really good job on this. Very inspirational. You could make a super cheap ute using this method.

  • Sweet. You're right the dropout looks a bit vulnerable. Is there any way the rack supports could attach to the chain stays / seat stays instead?

  • This was great lunch break reading!!!

    Very well done!
