Thanks both. So it must be a RD-RX812? As it is 11sp and 11-42t slx cassette. Anyone who has experiences riding this and able to compare shifting to a R8000 rear mech on 11-32 cassette?

Looking at building up a new project since my road bike was stolen recently. Thinking more 'all road' than gravel and can wait a little time to find the right thing.
Budget?
New Canyon Endurace clears 35c now with some shimano models saying April/spring delivery. Ribble CGR AL looks good for OTP 'all road' on a budget but there are plenty of other options..

i have installed a RD-RX810 (the one for 2x group on my CX) with 6800 shifters and a 11-32 cassette and the shifting is great. very silent too ( the large jockey wheels seem to work wonders )

Cross bikes as gravel bikes <3

• #22857
Ohh yeah. I've been on 6800 and 5800 on 11-32 with hydro old 685 Ultegra levers for while with 46/36 up front.
But I am debating whether to get new 48/36 chain rings or try 1x like i have on my MTBs. But I fear I'll find 11-42 with long cage GRX sluggish. -
• #22858
I see. I have only been using a large 11-40 cassette on a few occasions on challenging terrain , i find the large jumps on 1x groupsets very limiting when tarmac is involved.

Agreed. My MTBs are 1x but my (sometimes not quite) CX bikes are 46x36 doubles.

right now i am using 52x36 at the front as it is all i had at hand... but it not ideal off road. does anybody have a set of smaller 110 bcd 5-arm chainrings?

Budget?
Can use Cyclescheme up to £4k.
A few options then. This is replacement for a road bike, so leaning more to that end of the spectrum but don't want race geo, so something more in the strael mould.

You don't see that many touring bikes on offer these days from the major brands.
Have these new 'must have' gravel bikes (aka expensive hybrids) finally killed them off - shame! -
• #22863
You'll definitely feel the clutch, that's why I see so many people coming with bikes with it turned off.
Long cage doesn't help either. -
• #22864
You can feel a slightly tighter lower chain?
-
• #22865
I can feel it when shifting, I think.
-
• #22866
I am going to stick with 11-32 and get 48/36 up front then.

Get a sub-compact and you have the perfect ratios.

36/32t is sufficient for getting up the climbs in my hood.
