  • I've got it downloaded and ready for a play at the weekend!

Xbox series x games are slowly filling up my hard drive...

  • Statistically sony has always outsold MS. The ps4 sold over twice as many as xbox one.

  • They've mentioned they want to get gamepass on as many devices as possible. I'd imagine to become the "netflix of gaming"

  • I don't understand what that has to do with gamepass though?

  • I dunno, you brought it up?

  • 😂

  • Ooh. God of War on PC. After @cornelius_blackfoot long running fan boi comments about the game I just had to. That's my weekends ruined for a while.

  • I'm PlayStation til I die

  • Might also get a PC though 👀

  • I bought it on ps5 as one game I must try many months ago, but I can't get passed the VERY FIRST troll... I'm useless at games... I should give it a go again but my frustrations of being so bad keeps me away.

  • I had a launch day PS5 and Series X. Sold the PS5.

Spider-Man was fun and astros playroom is ace. Apart from that, games were fucking expensive, the UI is shit and i didn’t like the feel of the controller.

That and I sold it for £50 more than I paid for it a year earlier.

  • I'd take that!

There's been a lot of talk online since the take over announcement that MS is going to pull the Activision titles off the PlayStation network but the more you think about it, the less that makes sense.

Why pay 70bn for something to then cut of more than 50% of the customers (and so future revenue)? People will say "to sell more Xboxes" but the margins on manufacturing are tiny (consoles are sold at a loss for much of their life-cycle), where as the margin on selling content is huge (hence the logic for selling the consoles at a loss).

Then there's idea that this is probably the last console generation. Maybe the play is to just hold the brands so when everything goes on the cloud, everyone is playing on MS cloud servers.

I still think it's a bad acquisition for the gaming industry but maybe it's just gamings turn to eat itself up the same as music did 20 years ago & TV has been doing for the last 5 or so.

  • waiting on Sony to reveal what Spartacus actually is.
Not going to be a GP beater, but hoping it can bring something to the party.

    PlayStation fanboi 4lyf.

(true story: I have never played on any iteration of xbox)

  • had a play around with hitman 3 last night - great fun. could see me spending a lot of time in this

  • I don't remember being that much of a cheerleader for it.
Hope you enjoy it, some of the set pieces are great, and the quest for new armour and amulets takes some of the grind out of it.
If I could get some weekends to play I'd be so fucking happy.
After a slothful holiday period I'm being more active, which means I'm up later, so hopefully will get some game playing in after the fam's asleep.

  • They're moving away from exclusives to lock in players.
Game Pass, particularly in the Ultimate tier, is so convenient.
With the addition of Cloud and, to me, more importantly, the addition of touch (and thus removing the need to pair an actual pad to the phone, iPad, etc) makes it so much more worth of its cost.
Also you don't need an app, you can play via Cloud via your browser (done to allow playing on Apple devices).

I'm currently abroad and yesterday I played Death's Door, Hitman and Unpacking from my gf's sofa and my phone (Hitman on the iPad).

Sony can't compete with that. They didn't innovate and I only play a couple of exclusives on the PS5 (and also because I truly love the PS5 Dualsense!!), but the majority of my time is spent on Game Pass (Xbox Series X or phone or iPad) and Switch.

I might have missed your point, added my 2c after a mention of Game Pass and shifted the topic a bit :)

  • ahah I am stuck there too!! :(

  • Yeah gamepass is great for the customer, no arguing with that, never said it wasn't.
    "Sony can't compete with that"
Well last I saw they'd sold ~18m PS5's in 2021 and Xbox Series S/X was at 11m. The Xbox sales are heavily skewed by the US market. Sony has outsold them for 3 generations including the dip for the dumpster fire of the PS3.

    https://www.vgchartz.com/analysis/platform_totals

I didn't really have much of an original point, just speculation as to why MS is buying up all the developers they can for huge sums. I can't see Gamepass ever turning a profit unless they charge like £50 a month for it.
Game Pass apparently has 25m subscribers, the standard tier is £8 and let's say half of that goes on running costs (probably way more actually) so it has 100m to work with, a single AAA game can cost more than that to develop. Cyberpunk apparently cost > £300m, they're not making any money on game sales because it would be released on GP and they've now got 40+ studios making games to support.

So in my opinion MS has decided to try and corner the market, make money off DLC on all platforms and from game sales on Playstation because they are now the developer and publisher while also having the option to keep a grip on the highest selling games to only release on their platforms.

  • I said fuck it... Had a nap and took him on. Trick is to stay out of his reach. Its the buttons that muddle me, not like xbox layout

    Aim
    Fire
    Aim
    Arrow
    Recall
    Repeat

Storyline kicks in and its better. Try it again. The Stranger is cool.

  • Have you got to the bit where the bridge breaks? That was the first part I found hard. It does get easier as you unlock more skills and weapons, until the bosses.

  • the light dark elves suck when you aren't very powerful. on new game plus that section was a piece of piss.

  • Well 25M subscribers at £8 is more than 2 billions a year. Consider most have Ultimate, I'd say they earn more than 3 billions a year.
As a long term investment, buying Activision makes lots of sense. Considering that'll bump up that subscription base.
Plus the actual sales, which I believe is still huge for them. Don't have actual numbers.

But I believe many people with Game Pass still buy games. And all the rest who don't have GP do buy them and seeing how many more consoles they've sold vs GP customers.

So yeah PS5 might have sold more consoles and still has a bigger market share than MS, but MS is not that far behind and I feel it's on a safer long term path .

  • I'll try it once I'm back home !

  • As for Cyberpunk, I read they recovered costs and made a small fortune within months.

  • If it works it works, I'll happily use Game Pass just as I do now. Although I do worry a bit about the constant swing towards renting rather than owning, great for things like cars but if I bought a game or a movie I don't want to be locked away from it because I forgot a password or didn't pay a subscription fee.
