Fairlight cycles - any opinions?

yeah I like the PDW ones, but unsure which size. the 700x30 might not give enough clearance (increase risk of rub) but the 700x37 might be huge and need bending/modification to fit in the frame? idk - i need to measure the frame i guess

i've got PDW ones on mine - they work a treat, with 28m tyres. I'm using the black on black 37mm.

great - and you didnt have to modify the guards in any way? sound like them or velo orange are the ones to go for

I've puts some VO just fit my fork. Also 23mm tyre on 19mm rim give a 25mm width tyre. So 25mm seem to come up at 28mm and the max width on them is 30mm. Make sure you measure everything in advance.

Finally got my Strael 3.0 out to Valencia and I’m loving it. So smooth on the farm roads and paths around here.

I know some here are lucky enough to have it as a winter bike but this is replacing a 2015 Synapse 105 as my weekend bike, and I can’t believe how much of a step up it is. I can’t help but go faster.

I know some people like a Synapse but when I rented one I thought it was horrible. I can only imagine how much nicer this is to ride! Easily worthy of being a Sunday best 😎

little after work ride with mudguards on - need to chop the rear stays and tweak the fitting of the front a bit but overall works well :-)

My Strael ETA has been pushed back to 14th March, totally expected. I asked about changing colour from Deep Grey to the Pearlescent Plum that they announced around Xmas but that would push things back to mid-July at the earliest. Lovely colour but not worth the wait.

If you have a bike that works for now, I would. That plum looks brilliant

Yeah... I would, but I don't. Couple of fixies and a retro MTB mean there's a road bike shaped hole at the moment. And the estimated deliveries are just that, could absolutely be pushed back again. If I stick with the grey I'll stand a chance of riding in decent weather this year.

Anyone have an idea of the weight of a strael 3.o 61T frameset? The design notes don't mention it.

Also I think I read last night the full build pics of the new plum colour were happening. Does anyone with inside knowledge know when they might come to light? Just wondering if plum and purple ano would be a bit too much.

Any thoughts on Secan 2.5 vs Standert Erdgeschoss? Apart from tyre clearance and Reynolds 853 vs Taiwanese Stainless steel. What would you choose?

On the face of it, I would go for stainless and standert have the cool factor over fairlight but in reality without knowing the tubing wall thicknesses and butt profiles, 853 might be "better". I'd still take the standert though and £1700 for a stainless frame is pretty good.

are standert really that "cool"? i dunno why but they come across a bit try-hard/instagram-friendly to me... similar to dosnoventa when they were all the rage bitd

I would probably go for the frame developed by a team with significant engineering pedigree in steel frames (fairlight). yes biased but my two cents :-)

I don't like the scalloped fork on that Standert, and I find the purple secan pretty compelling. The fairlight is cheaper and they give a tonne of information about the design and materials. Something I've only read about recently is fairlight use a greater BB drop to feel more 'in' the bike - I haven't ridden enough bikes to compare, but I like my Faran which has it also.

Standert have that berlin cool vibe, but feels (to me) like you're paying for that.

They are a hip bike brand from Berlin and started off with making fixed gear frames. Of course, they are cool! Fairlight is a bit more modest imho.

Looking at the facts though I think these two frames are very similar and either one of them is going to be fun.

The Moss def Standert is hot but looking at the detail shots of the dropouts for example then I would argue these are look more refined on the Fairlight.
Dom from Fairlight is a man of detail.
