  • Just watched the T line story on youtube.
Interesting that they've outsourced the frameset construction.

  • How much was the ti clone all in?

  • That's pretty reasonable...
Hope you don't get hit by customs!

  • Well lets see I guess, fingers cross. Hopefully the other half will appreciate it.

  • Out of interest I weighed my '09 SL2 Ti. It's got mudguards, extending seatpost (from when they came with a stock ti post), but I've slowly upgraded the heavier bits over the years (saddle, cranks, bb, pedals). Came in at 7.98kg ...alas, I won't be joining the waiting list just yet.

Edit; my mistake; 9kg, see below

  • You've done well to get it that light.
I have a '14 SL2 Ti - which I've thrown a load of additional Ti at, and yet it tips the scales at just under 10kg :(

The short story isn’t too bad to watch as it was like the apple event where these clips are more polished.

I was watching the whole live(ish) stream late evening and it was cringe to listen and watch…

  • How did you achieve this?

  • I'm now doubting myself - I put it on digital bathroom scales, will check again later, but off the top of my head;

    Saddle > Rapha carbon
    Extended seatpost upper > Thomson
BB > Ti axle and lightweight bearings (forget where, possible SJS)
Cranks > Lightweight option (again, possibly SJS)
Pedals > those ebay Ti axle ones, one side removable
    Tyres > stock Kojaks
Brake levers > Lightweight, possibly SJS
Standard Brompton lightweight wheelset > now w/ Ti freehub and ti nuts

There's a few ti bolts, grips are just bar-tape, taken off rear reflector. There's some big savings to make (saddle, bb/cranks) and then nibbled the rest away over the years ...also signed by Bradley Wiggins... I'll see if I can find a pic.

  • Squiggle on the top-tube is BW, post Beijing Olympics ....which actually means it's an '08 model - and I ordered in '07 when I worked at Evans. Seem to recall it was ~£900 which was crazy money back then, but has been amazing value over the years.

  • ....yes, my mistake, not sure how that happened 9kg on the nose.

  • I think that ~1kg advantage you have over mine, has probably been lost between the BB and the chainset. Also, those CF wheels don't have any weight advantage over Brompton's lightweight ones.

  • But they're HHSB as fuck, so swings and roundabouts...

  • Dibs on Spam.

  • Great looking bike! Yes, I spent a bit of time a few years back looking at the wheel options, but figured it wasn't worth it, so just shaved a few grams off with the ti freehub. ....a quick guestimate, I could probably loose ~200grams through brake bolt set, headset, and pedal and few other bits, but reckon that's as far as it could go (aside from shrinking and losing the extended post and clamp).

  • Ha! I was about to say, my head was exploding saying ‘what witch craft material is this? Was material litter back in the late 2000’s?’ XD

  • And yes, props for the prop.

  • Apologies for that! :/ Not sure what happened, mustn't have been on fully ...but this has piqued my interest in doing a bit more tinkering.

  • ...

  • "Be advised sold as seen and needs parts replacing, reflected in low selling price" - Impossible to tell how screwed it is

  • Definitely worth a punt, probably get double that on eBay!

  • Ta @j and @50... he's not looking for a flip... I think it's a bit of a risk without him having decent Brommie knowledge so am advising caution. Will see.
