  • I was just about to pull the trigger on the 2021 SuperSix Hi Mod but discovered a thread about the metal fork rotation limiter. Went down a rabbit hole of people moaning about this - seems really dumb design.

It is as big an issue as some are making out?

  • There’s likely to be more experience of the issue in the sources you’ve read than in this thread.

Has Cannondale acknowledged it? How are they addressing it?

  • The metal fork limiter was only a real problem on the short lived rim brake version of the current shape SS Evo. The Disc brake version was quickly updated with small metal inserts inside the headtube at the point where the bump stop hits the inner head tube if turned too far. The bumpstop itself is also not made of metal, it is moulded carbon.

The cases where the bump stop caused the headtube damage were pretty much caused by carelessness anyway IMHO - if the bump stop wasnt there, letting the bars swing round so violently would have cracked the top tube from the bars whacking there instead (not to mention damaging the fork crown, and also ripping any hydro cables out).

I have a supersix evo disc and have no idea how anbody could cause the headtube to crack from the bump stop - you would have to basically turn the bars at a full 90 degrees with some considerable force to make it happen - this doesnt happen under general use. Sure, it can happen by accident, but if it happened to any other bike it would just result in a cracked top tube instead.

  • didn't want to share it before, but here it goes.. has a good gt aero bolted track end conversion vibe going on... :)

  • Hi,

Quick question. Buying a headset for a CAAD 5 frame, I read on a blog that a Cannondale rep advised 'Our road bikes that feature an 1 1/8 inch head tube are Campy, Ritchey and FSA compatible. Bearing angles need to be 45 x 45'

But I have seen a CAAD 5 with a Chris King Dropset 2, is this because it has 45 x 45 bearing angles, and that is what I need to make sure the headset has when purchasing?

Essentially I'm looking for a nice silver headset that will work for a CAAD 5.

    Thanks

  • Kinda wish you didn't post this...I'll have to pass though. messaged seller and he's put more photos up for any interested

  • So compact. So upright. So upsetting.

  • Sure, it can happen by accident, but if it happened to any other bike it would just result in a cracked top tube instead.

    hmmmm

  • It's pretty rough hey. It would still dress up nice but a new fork might spoil the look

  • Allegedly comes with a new BB standard known by the codename "English" or the acronym "BSC"

  • This isn’t strictly true. I’ve seen a frame were the lil “tab” just disintegrated.

  • From that state of that crown race I’m surprised the steerer tube is still attached to the fork TBH. Did they use a 50/50 sand/grease mix on their headset or something??

  • Any CAADX 2015/2016 owners running 650b?

I've order GK SK 1.7 & 1.9, anyone with experience with the max tyre clearance you can get away with?

  • Ah, similar to the power bank stuck to the down tube code named ‘smartsense’.

  • I've managed to squeeze 40mm into mine on 700c, just. So you'll probably be fine.

  • about the new smart thing on the Cannondale....I must say I am not impressed.
Instead of doing smarter and smarter bikes to get noticed by the car drivers etc, car companies should build cars less and less smart that the driver should only focus on the faqin road around instead of other jizzling stuff such as fancy screen, damn (a)social media mobiles and whatsoever tikertokering

  • there is not way this tab system is an intelligent solution. Given the momentum handlebars can generate, to rely of little bits of carbon or metal, so close to the revolving axis, is wishful at best.
It seems to me like another case of salesmen shouting " i don't care what the solution is, we need this aero-internal routing thing to sell !" at product designers.

edit : this not being adressed to B0N0R in particular

  • Made some progress on my CAAD7 project. I was a bit hesitant after all the comments about keeping the original paint but in the end decided to go ahead. Had some try and error to find the matching colours and had to redo the light blue as it was too light originally but I am quite happy with it now..Also swapped the original fork to a premium Fork with carbon steerer. Only thing i am not happy is the CAAD5 sticker on the seattube, so i might take this off before I clearcoat it the next days.

  • looks loads better i reckon.
think your seat tube sticker is upside down...

  • Hmm, true.. it also is too small and black whereas the original is white..I might take this off and try to find a better match.

  • That turned out pretty nice! It‘s your call but I‘d definitely get rid of the caad 5 sticker, I know the paint scheme is inspired by the caad5 r900 but as this is a caad7 it should have the correct decals or no caad decal at all :)

  • Yep, will take those off and either leave as it is or probably find one of those cannondale decals most of the caads of this era have on their seattube.

  • Did you end up buying this?

Surprised to hear it’s still for sale. Was on the usual Irish sites for a long long time. I made a decent offer too in May/June which wasn’t enough.

Noticed it was on eBay in November and sold for £800, that was a lot less than my offer but I’ve moved on from then.
