We tend to avoid the kinds of people we hate in real life, so to be confronted with someone who would a) own a car like that not realising how shit it was and b) kill an animal for a laugh is a slight shock. Most people on here viewing that would be 100% on the side of the chicken, and identify with it's desire to scratch up that vehicle. Just the chicken being shot without the car damage would be less shocking, because you wouldn't have anthropomorphised the animal.

In the way we root for the crooks in some gangster flicks. He had a better life than nearly every other member of his species, being free enough to go out and actually earn the death penalty. In the end, he died a gangster's death, taken by surprise by a coward with a gun.
