Epping Forest at this time of the year is just mental. Perfect conditions

Perfect conditions
For a cyclocross race?

Boggy?

It's dry and nice, with that little amount of give that those of us running skinny tires and no front suspension appreciate.
But what I was referring is more the combination of the morning light and that eerily fresh green of new leaves, before it turns darker in a few weeks

These are particularly astute observations.
I can attest.

Epping is comparatively mudless for the time of year at the moment.
-
• #1068
100%. Went for a ride yesterday and was astonished by the lack of mud.
The typical swampy areas are still swampy, of course (Whitehall Plain, I'm looking at you)
-
• #1069
Haha, definitely fell in one of said swamps on Whitehall Plain yesterday after trying to plough through it. But everywhere else is very dry, we managed to do a loop up to Harlow and back down at almost summer speeds.

almost summer speeds
About 9kmph then

Hahaaaa.

Does anyone have any GPS taking in some good bits of twisty Singletrack? I used to know all the bits but as it's been a few years all my old haunts seem to have changed, been chopped down or grown over. Plus I've probably forgotten them, to be fair. CX bike friendly or MTB, it's all good. Happy to copy a ride you've done and won't blame you for a few mistakes and wrong turns here and there.

Some here, though admittedly not that up to date :-)

Yeah, things have changed a bit since I was riding there five years ago. It seems a lot of the nice switchback stuff has gone or at least moved. I could be wrong, like! Has anyone got any good post-pandemic routes?
Also the forest is a bit shit now they've started charging everyone for parking, it was cool having a chat with all the cabbies over a cup of tea, but now the old boys don't really pop up there any more during the week.
Gad no
Once would be enough for me right now.
