those super 6 evos run fine with non-integrated cable routing... no one is forcing people to fit mechanical cables into integrated bars etc.

Well, it’s the fetishisation of electronic cables and hydraulic lines that has caused the problem. Those who prefer mechanical, or can’t afford di2, are left to suffer the consequences. I guess someone at Big Bike read Nudge.
It’s a temporary problem. New bikes will be free of mechanical cables soon enough, introducing the servicing model from the automotive world. Cycling is becoming more and more like car ownership.
