  • stop riding so much

  • Mine failed in the same place. Wedged the gap open, spread a load of normal araldite in and used a g cramp to hold until it set. Lasted for years after that.

  • Any feedback on the Riot+?

I think I'm in a similar predicament. I have flat, wide feet but a narrow heel. Lake MX218 wide fit quite well around my toes (although their sizes come up quite short) but the huge heel cup meant my heel was lifting really easily.

Giro Privateer HV have been OK, but I get hot spots on my little toe and I had to put in my rigid molded insoles to push out the instep.

I'm interested to try some Bonts or Quoc but both are almost impossible to try on in person.

  • Northwave are worth a try. I'm not sure if I have 'wide' feet but sidi and Giro are way too narrow for me, northwave and specialized I would say have medium width but narrow heels.

  • Thanks, it annoys me that so few shoe manufacturers provide a top-down shot of the shoe. That is the view I will be seeing 99% of the time, and also gives the best indication of what shape the shoe actually is.

  • Mavic Maxi-fit were great but seem to be discontinued. Zxellium in yellow were the best shoes I ever had.
How wide are the new Adidas road shoes?

  • Adidas? Likely to be about 30mm wide if they fit anything like their trainers.

  • I normally wear Sidi and they fit me well, had Riot+ and comfortable but too wide for me (never moulded them as too much slack to take up).

I’m not sure that really helps.

  • Fit my very wide / splayed toe feet pretty well I think - I need to mould them to iron out a little niggle on one toe - but no issues with heel lift etc.

  • Great to hear.

I just received a pair of Quoc Gran tourer. First impressions are good, no problem with width in the forefoot, I need to try with my insoles for the rest.

  • Advice welcomed please. I bought a pair of Secialised mtb shoes about 15 months ago during lock down. They've been fine - until recently.
Now when I ride my feet get uncomfortably hot. My theory is that the cushioned insoles are not doing their job anymore. I notice the shoes when I'm out, I can feel the discomfort as if the cleat is coming through - it isn't! and surely the mark of a decent shoe is that they shouldn't be noticeable. They cost me £100 so surely shouldn't be knackered already!
I'm resolved to try some cushioned insoles - any recommendations?

  • Anyone know where I buy or bodge some kind of replacement heel pads for my Bont Vapours? Mine melted and fell off when I put the shoes in the oven!

  • edit - fixed them.

FWIW i wouldn't buy a pair of Fizik Artica's again. Fiddly Zip and not that warm.

  • Just bought some,
    mainly for the look,
couldn t bring myself to go for some Sidi.
    Found something better?

  • I ve tried the mtb Fizik Artica,
I could go for half a size under my normal size,
    but that s ok,
I want the space for big socks.

Had two 2 hours rides in just above freezing temperatures,
    and sunny conditions.
    I wasn t cold ,
but not reassured I wouldn't be if I cycled any longer.
I found a lot of moisture in the shoes after a gentle ride,
even though I had backed down the zip for extra ventilation.
    I have toe overlap,
whereas theSidi and Shimano summer shoes never been troublesome.

  • Dhb road and MTB laceups reduced on wiggle at the minute, have found them quite comfortable.

  • My personal best shoes ever.

  • Gonna be looking for some new shoes soonish, maybe something a bit less cycle shoe looking, but still SPD.
Currently looking at Ride Concepts, Endura, and Crank Brothers. Does anyone have real world experience of any of these?
    Ta

  • Quite often find my feet feel too warm on hot days. Mostly I've been riding Lake MX332 which is supposed to be a race shoe (with MTB cleats) but it's happened with other shoes too. Would have thought any race shoe or similar should have plenty of ventilation etc. Are some shoes just designed more for cooler conditions?

  • It's finally time to put my trusty sidi dominators out to pasture after what must be a decade of commuting!

It seems sidi inexplicably don't make the dominator any more & cycling shoes have become really expensive!

Anyone know what the replacement model is please? There seem to be eagles or dragons? I'd prefer a shoe that doesn't have the wire closing system but that seems to be the way they're going.

  • If you’re a 46 I have some “used but life left” Dominators that aren’t getting worn

  • Thank you - actually close but I'm a 48 so not close enough.

Think I'll bite the bullet & go for the eagles, if I get another 10 years out of them that's still decent value.

  • I’ll put up a sale thread but I’ve got a pair of bont riot + (boa) - 44.5 wide fit black - put cleats on but even round house / on trainer they ain’t right (I’m crazy wide/flat footed) le sigh - they are immaculate - hit me up for early bird if of interest.
