  • like when you see those ugly custom American bikes overloaded with anodised parts (geek house and indipendant owners don’t read this)

    Citation needed

  • I have collected the pacer

    It’s rather nice

    I am currently shopping for

    Silver flat bar cockpit:
100mm stem with a little rise, ok if 0deg
Bars no longer than 640 or so, ideally a little rise
    V little sweep
    25.4 would be perfect

    Short pull brake levers:
    Any, shimano if possible

    Esi/oury grips:
If anyone has any knocking about

All of it Ideally a bit beaten up? Nice old logos? Would also take unbranded

I have a nitto cockpit in the basket and such but I just feel I genuinely get more satisfaction out of people’s old parts lately, some charm about it

Also will likely be keeping the cranks and such so it would match more thematically if it was a little hesh/ cheugy as opposed to brand new

I considered putting the on one Mary’s on, short stem, but I think I want something a bit longer/ less sweep for this.

    “Sporty feeling”

  • classic manic move for the thread, i simply ordered the parts needed.

will be some time before it gets built up as i am currenly not in touch with the tool bag, stand, or finishing cables, but, i am eagerly awaiting annoying my new neighbours by hammering out this perfectly fine cane creek headset

went with smaller bars than the cross ones, think it's for the best really, also saved £30

pink grips? actually like the pink tape a lot

im hoping the stem is long enough,i think it will be. have a habit of making my cockpits too short or too long when doing risers, hoping this strikes a sporty but comfortable position. channeling my refrence points of the 10 cockpits i've built in the last 12 months to get these numbers.

also looked up friction shifting and how to install???? why do we do index shifting outside of the world tour??????????????????????????????????????????????? it's just easy and works???????

    honestly excited for this

  • Nice selection of parts. Interested to see how how the cockpit will look like in the end. Are you doing bar tape or grips or a Rivendell-esque combo?

P.s. I got some spare dia compe friction dt shifters if you are friction curios.

  • thank you!

it'll be pink grips (i am quite fond of the pink merle went with), the tape is for the chain stay. eventually it'll have a red headset and red accented saddle. paired with mis-match cable spares and the green of the paint it should be uncomfortably clashing together

kind offer on the shifters! it has one already on there, a nice suntour. inerestingly i took it out for a little spin, as i thought it right to finally ride it; I am learning about the value of practice in addition to theory

    Theoretically? Dt friction ideal

Practice? Oh yes I love fucking my gears up mmm please clank more… no not quite… uhhh… that’ll do

people who design their bikes for efficiency and ergonimcs please read no further

im sure i'll learn the nuance in time, i kind of like the idea that shifting is an inconvinence? and having a cleaner cockpit. something i liked about the homer when it was single speed was how nice it was just to have 2 break levers on the bars, same with the pomp, it felt "fun" and "nimble" visually even if it rode the same. i guess this allows this but with the convinence of the gears when needed

functional bike builders please continue reading

taking it for a spin i was shocked at how much it felt like a 4130 steel bike, like all the others i've ever had, the two pomps, the kepler, now this. little weighty, nothing exciting, reasuring. has 32s on the moment but maybe they need a little air out. after riding the alu one for the little amount of riding ive done in the last month and then to this? really drove home how silly my insistance on heavy all steel bikes is, but also, how they just feel and look so right regardless.

anyway here is a pic i took for prosperity, the lever position please ignore, we know it's a crime, i just wanted to ride around in relative comfort

  • Going for a similar sort of thing with my Kepler. Only with sweep not riser

  • i hope you're neurodivergently pretending it's an airplane too

  • Hadn't got that far. Been pretending to ride the frame that's in a box on its way here instead. Office is totally empty other than me so maybe airplane time this afternoon!

  • you went from peak buyer to influencer in a month. Well done

  • influencing in the same way a gambling aware ad is promotional media for betting

  • Which bars? I wanted something like this for my crust but the ritchey went out of stock at the last minute.

  • Ritchey Classic as it happens. Bike Discount had them in stock and have a matching seatpost too

  • Thought so! I'll keep an eye out.

  • Gears tomorrow

Put bars, brakes, pedals, chain stay wrap and stickers on

Looks ace tbqh, using the purple for the mech cable too, really like it with the green, the tonal pink grips

Quite excited to have it done tomorrow :)

  • Looks great. How’s the fit?

  • Thank you

stack and reach feels good for its intended purpose, might need a wider saddle eventually

I think a 58 with shorter stem would be what I want if I wanted something to ride all day, purely for the extra stack, but this feels a bit more “chuckable” for the day to day

But it’s not “chuckable”, it weighs a good heft despite its dainty facade

  • Needs honjo guards.

  • thoroughly de-toryed, looks great!

  • No honjos here, maybe sks clip ons. realistically I never ride my bike in the rain

@mind_maze it was touch and go piecing it together. I was constructing it under a sheet before the grips were on, for fear of being seen as a class traitor by any neighbour who looked through my window

  • im currently laid up in bed with tonsilitus and a fever, here is where my brain is at
