Not tried it, but it won't work. The rollers on the flat top chain are larger than standard, I understand, so the chain won't sit properly on a Shimano cassette.

This. Some people say it works but I wouldn’t like to trust it.

Using an axs road mech with shimano cranks, chain and cassette is of course an option

I like that idea. The [rear] shift spacing is apparently the same
