  • True, guess it was just a lucky coincidence that a load of other players turned out to be injured a few hours after the request to postpone had been turned down.

  • Not even subtle about it.

  • We forgetting about nandrolone Pep? It’s amazing how he got all those little Spanish fellas running around.

  • Is this where the phrase "full of pep" came from?

  • Now you mention it!

  • Sure - elbow in the face is fine.

  • Bullshit result. Shit house club.

  • That was a foul all day long on Cavani. It’s not NFL.

  • Villa had these on toast all game, this United team are shite. Why the fuck is VAR being used in some games and not others? It’s ridiculous.

  • Villa were hard done by there, easily the better side. United are a mess.

  • playing badly and winning - the sign of a great team

  • Cavani is looking the other way and runs into Ramsey, miles from play. Would never have got anywhere near the ball. Nothing challenge. Fair goal.

  • Don’t be daft. Just because he’s not looking, doesn’t mean you can ignore the ball and deliberately play the man.

Ramsey wasn’t looking the other way. He was looking right at, and blocking Cavani.

  • I would agree, they were doubtless made up/exaggerated in order to overturn the initial decision, which was a bullshit decision given the ‘big 6’ (ugh) had all games cancelled with fewer cases. We had 8/9 available senior outfield players when we initially requested the postponement and were rushing a few back from injury for that. Blame the FA/PL for making a stupid call in the first instance.

  • Can someone please explain why having the arsenal game rearranged was convenient for Liverpool?

  • Isn't the key word in that quote "boys"? There were at least 5 academy graduates in that side.

Not diminishing the annoyance of seeing a great talent poached for no money tho.

  • Kidderminster's winner never stands under VAR in a million years #notbitter

  • He was probably generalising but "All credit to our academy" isn't true at all. There should be credit to the other academies that have produced players to a certain level only for them to be sniped at the latest possible chance to get a good deal.

I can't say I'm fully up to speed with Liverpool's academy, but I'm pretty sure that Gordon isn't the only one they've signed as a 16/17 year old recently. Conor Bradley was signed 2 years ago as a 16 year old and played this weekend too, and Harvey Elliott (although I don't think he played at the weekend) was picked up from Fulham for a nominal fee as well.

They aren't the only club that do this. I know Derby sign some promising youngsters when they can too. We have invested a lot of money in trying to compete at academy level with the big clubs and have started to get some good results from it, it just massively backfires when the crown jewels are effectively stolen before the club can get any value from their investment.

What really boils my piss is Klopp's smugness. He used to be (kind of) likeable.

  • You're railing against modern football here, I don't believe Liverpool are anywhere close to the worst for this (Chelsea and City seem to be the names most often cited in this regard) and I don't know why Klopp can't praise the academy, even if they've only been involved with some players for two years, a lot of development will have happened in this time. Morton and Waltman been there since 7 years old, Dixon Bonner and Kelleher for 6 years each, Trent since he was 6, Neco Williams and Curtis Jones since they were 8. Plus the recent academy graduates that we've sold for decent money (Kent, Wilson, Brewster - came from Chelsea academy aged 14, sold for £20m) - seems lots to thank them for.

  • nigeria egypt utter dross so far.

  • So pleased to see Saturday's game being reffed by Utd-crest-tattooed David Coote. I'm sure it'll be fine.

  • tickets for celtic hibs next monday secured. tempted to get my season ticket back next year maybe...

  • It's the hope that kills..

  • Tunisia - Mali sounds like great fun. Ref blows for full time at 87 mins, then again at 89 mins. In a second half that had 2 pens, 2 VAR reviews, a goal and a red card. Tries to restart the game 40 mins later, but the Tunisians have already been in ice baths for half an hour so refuse to come out. Why can't all international competitions be like this?

  • It was next-level chaos. I love it.
