important significant?
Probably a distinction without a difference. People who think Farage is a cunt don't like to acknowledge the import or significance of his intervention. If it makes it easier for them, Hitler was the most important German politician of the 1930s. You don't have think he was any less of a cunt to acknowledge that.

âPoliticianâ suggests what they did was legal
If you exclude criminals from the list of eligible candidates, picking the most significant politicians from any country or era becomes a pointless exercise. Hitler at least has the advantage in a generally muddy field of having been lawfully appointed as head of government as a result of his party's candidates being lawfully elected to the assembly

âWell scheisse, since thereâs nothing in the electoral rules against murdering the opposition, I guess we have to declare this guy legally elected.â

OK I get it Kim Jong Un is a politician, the military Junta in Myanmar are politicians just like Angela Merkel is a politician
No difference gotchađThere are ways to enact political change. Enacting political change doesnât necessarily make you a politician. Using violence to achieve your goals kinda discounts your politician status. Itâs like turning up to a ping pong match with a pistol and threatening your opponent. You may have won the game but no one will call you a great ping pong player.

No difference
The difference is between "important" and "good". It's pretty much a feature rather than a bug that good politicians are rarely important and important politicians are rarely good. From a classical liberal perspective, one might say that the less important politicians are, the better it is for everybody.

When you say âclassical liberal perspectiveâ do you mean Mills version or the modern innuendo for raving fascist?
Also..sorry I edited my post as you posted your response to add the pingpong bit.

Obviously Mill's. The neo-cons who pretend to be classical liberals show themselves up by supporting the idea of strong-man leaders.

All politicians resort to violence eventually. We must therefore judge them on the legitimacy and proportionality of the violence.

What's Cartharrt?
-
• #93872
A USA workwear brand, ridiculously expensive over here and thus much beloved of the golf club set.
A meme only relevant in the US, so it can fuck off
