Is that this one: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=AyHYXms_p3o
Looks like it but there were several models of the Electribe.
I’m supposed to be saving for a MicroFreak but these looks sick. Will it sync through the midi in?

Yes that’s the one. That’s a good video showing all the presets. Thanks for posting it.

Sorry, I forgot to answer your question.
Yes it will sync through the midi in. -

I was slightly obsessed with edIT back in the days and read up a lot of interviews with him. That Crying Over Pros album was done using Reaktor and a laptop - he built his own glitch machine in Reaktor to mess with the original MIDI tracks he wrote. NI now sell prebuilt glitch machines for Reaktor -the Tim Reaper one is excellent.
Anyway the reason I mention it is if you decide to go down the NI controller route, they come with a basic version of Reaktor and Ableton, and you can easily upgrade your NI software to either get the full suite or just half-inch the glitch machines you like. This is the one I have and it's excellent. https://www.gak.co.uk/en/native-instruments-komplete-kontrol-m32-controller-keyboard/923806

Left field but does anyone have any artists or playlist suggestions for percussion or simple beats and sounds I could play with my youngest?
New years resolution is to try and be better at giving them more sensory experiences and they seem to like music and have a little percussion set.
Capoeira is the only thing that comes to mind.
Cheers.

How about this left field solution.
It can be a little unsettling though.

We do singles doubles paradiddles, slowly getting faster, kid finds it well funny. You just reminded me about blob opera which has just rinsed an hour of my night shift, ymmv, link here...
Aurora orchestra do good workshops for kids, obvs more on a classical tip. Since corona fucked all that up they got some youtube things on the go that we've not checked out personally but might be worth a look. Link

So I bought a Drumbrute on Facebook expecting the smaller Drumbrute Impact, given it was £170. When I went to meet the guy, it turned out to be the full Drumbrute, which were £400 new. I offered him a bit more cash but he was very happy to let it go for that. It’s barely been used too.
I’m like a kid at Christmas.

Nice! When I was choosing my first synth I was very tempted by the similarly designed MiniBrute 2. Big fan of Arturia's stuff, both hardware & software.
On a separate note, my JX-08 just arrived today, good times!

Weirdly specific question but is anyone in the market to buy a pair of Genelec 8020Ds (the newest ones, less than a year old) or swap (with some extra cash) for 8030s?
Buying my Genelecs has been utterly mindblowing and has had such a huge impact on my mixes I want to upgrade them and see how far this goes.

I’d love to but can’t afford at the moment. Been eyeing the 8020s as a replacement for my HS7s (which are too big for my setup).

EXACTLY the same issue I had. I was using a pair of focal alphas (same size subwoofer as your HS7s - 6.5 inches) which were great but just entirely too big for a spare room. I moved to the 8020s and my mixes improved fivefold within weeks. No more guessing at frequencies, no more having to check mixes on multiple systems for problems I couldn't hear on the biggies, just...clarity. Can't recommend 'em enough.
My only advice would be - if there's any chance you might want more bass response, consider going with the 8030s straight off the bat - I always thought I'd get a sub to go with my 8020s but I don't really have the room for it, whereas the 8030s are so much less of a space / money investment than a separate sub.

Haha! I've always thought 8030s are some of the best sounding and most revealing speakers going. What do they go for these days?

I have finally put some tunes online. Lockdown 1 inspired me to play my guitar more and dust off my sampler and these songs are the result of that. I still know nothing about mixing or mastering so any feedback is welcome.
Some of the tunes are outcomes of the LFGSS Music Makering Challenge.

Super useful insights, thanks. Yeah, the HS7s are ok, and I’ve used them for years, but I know they’re not as good as Genelecs - if I’m making mixing decisions I always put headphones on. I have a very good pair of Audeze planar ‘phones and they are just a totally different ball game to the monitors. Hoping a pair of 8020s or 8030s can bring some of that clarity/separation. Though given that I’m quite volume restricted at home it’s not been a priority. I justified the cans thinking that more expensive monitors wouldn’t get enough use.

They're tooth-achingly expensive - cheapest you can get is still well over £800 the pair. But what makes them dangerous is that they're really easy to sell on for what you paid for them, more or less, so they're irritatingly easy to rationalise as a purchase.

I picked up a second hand TR8S and I’m enjoying learning it and jamming but I’ve got one thing that’s causing me trouble.
Is there a way to adjust the length of scatter?
I have a pattern which is 12 steps, I have adjusted the auto fill to 12 steps. This works fine on fills 1 & 2 but when it triggers scatter the fill goes on for 16 steps which then puts the timing out when the pattern starts again at step 1.Thanks for any advice.

Anyone have any tips in how to actually finish a song? I seem to get halfway and then run out of steam. I have quite a few songs parked but every time I go back to them I draw a blank.

What I like to do is get every thing sketched out roughly as soon as possible. I use ableton so as soon as I have the core bit done in session view (usually an 8 or 16 bar loop) I get everything laid out in the arrangement. Eg. Intro, first breakdown, drop 1, main breakdown, drop 2, outro. It's super basic, the intro and outro will just be the kick, snare, hats from the loop, the drops will just be copies of the loop and I'll just leave holes where the breakdowns are.
None of the lengths are locked in and everything usually changes a lot but just having the structure laid out with a clear start/middle end makes it much easier for me to work. If I'm stuck on a section I can easily jump to another part. It all just feels more manageable to just swap bits out than working start to finish looking at and empty screen. For me at least.

The thing that helped me most with this was being more disciplined about getting enough sounds, variations, ideas and a basic structure down as quickly as possible. I used to get stuck tweaking small things and end up wasting time and never finishing anything.
Basically ignore 'mixing' tasks and make music more like recording a full band.
Hi, I’m having a little clear-out to fund a new drum machine.
So first up is my Korg Electribe EA-1 synth
All working fine, original power supply and box.
Cheapest on eBay is £140 +£15 postage, so I thought on here £120 inc postage
Please ask if you have any questions about it.
