The Salomon I’ve had in the past had a weird lacing system which I didn’t like and which didn’t work very well. Dunno about Nike.
I’ve used the mudclaws on hard trails and the odd stretch of tarmac. Not uncomfortable or awkward but very little by way of cushioning
