  • newb question that’s probably been answered before:
I want to learn how to make bike bags, just for fun and to learn a new skill, is a regular domestic sewing machine up to the job of durable material or do I need a heavy duty one?

  • You could get away with a semi decent domestic, but if your going to be going through multiple layers you may struggle with it.

  • I've done a few things using a manual Singer 99K - works fine with Gutterman upholstery thread and up to 4 thicknesses of cordura, also with pvc, and for attaching / modifying webbing straps.
It wouldn't be suitable for high turnover, but I've been satisfied with my own limited efforts so far.
