Rohloff lockring

thing that holds the cog?

I am still not sure how to slacken the belt to take the wheel out lol

Yeah, that thing (8538.) You won't need to slacken the belt to drop the wheel.

Realizing now you need special tools to remove the lockring (belt whip and lockring tool) so I guess if it loosens, take it to your LBS and have them do the thing.
