I watched There Will be Blood last night as a last night before back to work treat. I haven't seen it since watching at the cinema and my wife hadn't seen it at all so she chose it. I think there's a huge amount of overlap between that film and No Country for Old Men in my memory. I remember there being a very different ending.
Excellent film though if you haven't seen it for a while.

My favourite film from the 2000s.
It's a crime that the BD release (a 2k scan from the 1080p DVD release) is still the highest quality release.
If anything is crying out for a proper 4k scan of the 35mm for UHD blu-ray or streaming it's this.

Thanks - must have been something with the holidays and updating the system. Lots of stuff available now (just booked tickets for The Electrical Life of Louis Wain), but yesterday there was zero bookings available for any film beyond Thursday at any of my locals (including KX).

Dunno if you guys have BFI Player on Prime Video but I've been working my way through the Kurosawas. Obviously Throne of Blood and Hidden Fortress and Yojimbo and stuff are all great, but there's also High And Low which is a modern (well, 60s) crime procedural based on a pulp novel by Ed McBain which is just amazing. Properly, properly tense and pulse quickening. The exact opposite of its remake (Ransom with Mel Gibson in the 90s) despite sharing almost the same story.
Also we watched The Discreet Charm Of The Borgouise by Luis Brunel. I may be a philistine but I had absolutely no idea what the hell was going on, but I did lol a lot. It's got Vincent Cassel's dad in it too and as soon as you know he's in it it's absolutely obvious who he is.
Oh one final BFI recommendation, Alphaville by Jean Luc Besson - a pulp detective from 30s LA is transported for some reason into an alien world where a 1984 style dictatorship reigns supreme to the detriment of love, creativity, and the human spirit - even though it's an alien world it's filmed in Paris in the 60s. You see the birth of Blade Runner in it. It's amazing. Had a bit less time for Breathless, though it looked impossibly cool, but I suspect it might benefit from a re-watch.

Don't look up is a fun subversive watch. Clever. No wonder the media review it badly. Strong critique of them and politicians.
A serious watch

Last day of NowTV subscription, i have Minari and Another round on the haven't seen watchlist and of course i go for Beverly Hills Cop.

Yeah will definitely give it a go.
I think i found the opening credit scene to BHC more thought provoking than all of Don't look up.

Just came out of Titane, having been taken to see it by a friend and knowing absolutely nothing about it. Absolutely loved it, so unremittingly out there! Best cinema experience in a long time....

Licorice Pizza is great, go and see it! Might go and watch it again.

That's passed me by, I'll add it to the watchlist.

Definitely try and watch it. Pretty unique

Will do, sounds interesting! Just booked tickets to see Licorice Pizza in 70mm at Prince Charles in February. I think it'll be the first film I've seen twice in the cinema since I got very over excited by Borat as a teenager.

I know it's not high brow but the new Spiderman is a proper feel good nostalgia fest, I loved it.

Still need to see this, but if you haven’t already seen, I really enjoyed Raw, the director’s first film.

Spiderman is a proper feel good nostalgia
Same with Ghostbusters Afterlife, saw it last night, great fun. I’m looking forward to Spiderman, there’s some enticing stuff in the cinema right now

Just watched James Bond No Time to Die.
No spoilers, but wtaf?! Not actually sure where to go with it.
Fwiw I'm a huge Bond fan since a young kid, so I always enjoy all of them even if bits are too hammy.

Power of the dog was weird, and not just seeing a little flash of bendy dick in a 12 rated film. I think I liked it.

I saw it on a low day with my gf, to cheer us up. Paid cinema prices for the pleasure.
Might be late but an open Bond discussion thread would’ve helped the healing process.

Great movie, strange and very nick cage.
Dunno, I feel new Matrix is like one of those boy/girs band reunion after xx years, sounds a bit more shit and one of original cast/members say fuck you im not doing this anymore
