(Sorry, late reply...) If I had more spare time and money, the Powermann Long Distance Duathlon looks right up my street, both in terms of endurance and running bias. But I'll likely stick to the running/rowing combo especially as both are relatively time-efficient compared to cycling. I've managed to keep a consecutive training day streak going so far this year (6 days, woohoo!) so I want to keep that going as long as possible.

Just tried to go for a quick lunch run and barely made it 1km before going “fuck this”.
Ran 25k on Wednesday night so am probably just not fully recovered yet. Brain wants to run, body says no.

Good luck with consistency. For the rest of January and probably most of February consistent low to moderate intensity 5-6 days a week is my only only goal. Powerman long distance is a bucket list race for me but I'd need to be running at least 30 seconds per mile for me to do well there and I'm about a minute per mile off being able to really mix it up with the fastest AG guys and with a baby now I don't thats realistic 30s maybe. It definitely suits a runner that can ride rather than the other way round. The Fugitive longer distance duathlon in Marlow might be worth a look i certainly fancy it. Good luck with the training 💪

Oh yes - one of my favourite races in one of my favourite locations.
I say that now, come 3.15 on the 26th of Feb I'll be singing a different song

I have a 2 year old. I use it as an excuse for everything.

Had an absolute ripper of on off-road ten miler this morning. It has been ages since I've really enjoyed a run. It flew by. Wet, windy, cold and muddy too. That said, I'm hobbling around the place like an octogenarian tonight.
What's the bet I hate every step when I do the same route next weekend?

It looks superb, My coach made me aware of it ,I've been racing in a few XC up here in Essex.
Will definitely make the trip down for this. -

Did you do the Essex XC in Basildon today?
Proper type 2 fun. The downhill bit was a mud chute, people falling over all over the shop.
I need to get some 15/18mm spikes!
-
• #26988
Yeah was there with 15mm , That steep descent destroyed the right sole of my spikes on the start of the 2nd lap and fell/slid down that slope, Had to tear off the sole at the bottom and finished the race in what can only be described as as a slipper - I was so cold/caked in mud ,I couldn't let the course beat me 😂

My aim for 2022 is 100 runs. I'm not sure how many I did last year but trying to average two a week seems reasonable.
Nearly had a big setback on Tuesday when, 500m from work I ducked between a set of bollards on Whitehall without noticing that they were along the edge of a step. I went over on my ankle, and banged up my left knee. Got the tube home and it was alright the next day, and after a very slow 5k on Thursday and a decent 10k today I think it's holding up.
I need some shoes that can handle running in mud though. Wanstead Park was not easy going this morning.

11 miles this morning through muddy fields, wind, rain, some icy patches and a wintery sun. Found a back route into the grounds of a stately home and ran through the deer park.
First run over ten miles for months.
Bloody loved it! -

Did 20 whole kms yesterday a mix of pavement to commons and mud paths.I was fucked when I got back. The last mile, thanks Morrissey, was the hardest mile.
I'm glad I packed jelly sweets. -

Thanks for the recommendations - they might be at the very pricy end of what I can justify.
Also, how annoying would I find shoes that chunky on the 2km to/from the muddier areas?

And any opinions on either of these?
(The Wildhorse 7 also comes in tamer colours)

The Salomon I’ve had in the past had a weird lacing system which I didn’t like and which didn’t work very well. Dunno about Nike.
I’ve used the mudclaws on hard trails and the odd stretch of tarmac. Not uncomfortable or awkward but very little by way of cushioning -

If I'm reading the tracker correctly Damian Hall is currently ahead of the FKT time on the Spine Race. He's stopped for a rest at Middleton by the looks of things so the FKT might pass him again but this could be interesting!

Haven’t read good reviews of the wildhorse but they do look cool and I’d buy them just for that. Think they’re more for US gravel roads than shit footpaths
Doesn't have a dual zip; what's the point?
