Can you get non electric Rohloff for cheaper?
I think it is electric on tern. Also electric aspect of Rohloff scares me lol, can I buy Enviolo (cabled) with gates and upgrade to Roholoff cabled when it shits itself?

Yes, I’m sure you can. You’ll prob be stuck with enviolo for a few years though because you’ll want to use up all the warranty replacements you can before investing in Rohloff.
So a year or two of shitty ride feel, lots of drag, and (potentially) frequently breaking gear cables and shifters which are annoying to fix. And the hub having all sorts of issues which can sometimes be fixed and sometimes not.

Buy cheap, buy twice

Might not be as bad on a tern though as it’s not such a heavy duty bike..

Good points!
Hmm, maybe just the Shimano mech version then?

Fixed or gtfo

I went enviolo over rd just to avoid the awkward not being in the right gear at a junction.
But an extra £3.5k for a different hub gear sounds good value........

E14 is awesome with Bosch bikes - we move dozens a year. Mechanical Rohloff with Bosch has problems in my experience due to the added torque of the drive unit and the bends of the internally routed lines causing excess drag on an already stiff shifting system.
Enviolo and Rohloff run their shift lines on opposite sides of the bike (DS/NDS respectively) and it's VERY unlikely the frame will have the necessary routing for mechanical Rohloff - if you don't mind zipties, it shouldn't be a problem, tho.

Tern GSD is £5.7k now? Nope.
Would go regular 9 or 10 speed external gears, we have two here that are 2019 version, apart from all the usual Tern 'features', such as incomplete welds, holes in the frame, twisted frame, twisted impossible to fit racks, brake mount in the wrong place, headset lower race seat not cut in the frame straight, have worked just fine with external gears. They get no use for a month, then absolutely hammered by ham fisted types for a month and apart from a chain only lasts about 1000-1500 miles, the gear and brake aspect of them (Magura something, e8?) have been the best part. Benefits of Envilio is really only for leisure users, they tend to explode if you use them hard. Yes there is warranty, but you will be without a bike each time, whereas regular gears any old bike shop or you can sort them out.
Would look at Benno eBoost if you want a decent long tail, 24" wheel size is a PITA for tyres, but IMO they are better built than Tern, especially the accessories, and cheaper, base bike is about £4.3k, so will every extra your just over £5k with a Bosch gen4 Cx or Cargo (can't remember which is the right term). Doesn't fit smaller people though, 5'3 kinda the lower limit.

Defo yes think about cabling options for Rohloff retrofits! Seen some stinkers over the years with duck tape, zip ties and pieces of plastic used to persuade the cables/shift box thing to stay in the right place on bikes where they don't have a location for these things in the frame. Oh wrong dropout angles too, so the shift box/outlet port is pointing into the ground haha.

New saddle day for my Douze Cargo.
I purchased a Brooks C67 Cambium back in October as I have a C15 carved on my road bike and I get on with it very well.
The C67 description sold it to me:
The Cambium C67 is designed for the commuter, urban cyclist and casual tourer, perfect for E-bike, cargo bikes and Dutch-style bikes, or for anyone cycling in the upright riding position in all weathers
https://www.brooksengland.com/en_uk/c67.htmlBut in reality, the nose is a tad wide for my liking and the shape of the saddle effectively pushes you back so your butt bones sit right at the back of saddle close to the rivet line where there is hardly any suspension.
IMO, it's fine for short distances but I could not do 2 hours on it - which is what I do regularly when I deliver Champagne.
I got a C19 carved in the CRC/Wiggle sale - will report what it is like!

B67 is your destiny, accept it

I hear you but the thing thats most important in tern for me is Stormbox and the fact it 'folds' down small. And 20" too, quite a lot of tyre choice. Maybe Gen 2 is better?

Confusing as you can have it orientated in whatever position you want?

I've used silly overpowered Bafang with 10 speed shimano mountain bike drivetrain (without any shifting sensors) and not had any issues. Chain wear hasn't really been much of an problem over a standard leg-powered bicycle.
I think most people who have problems have little mechanical sympathy and/or experience of riding a regular bicycle.

Buuuuut Enviolo doesn't shift when you're stationary either, does it? At least not in my experience.
-
• #8597
It does, half the range at a time
-
• #8598
Our electronic Enviolo doesn't feel like there's much range available. In order to avoid many many warranty replacements we're only shifting when coasting now. The newer Automatic system seems a bit less prone to self-destruction and supposedly has built in protection features to stop it automatically shifting under heavy loads.
