I'm a big fan of waterproof trousers now. Can't believe I went so long without ever using them.
The specific ones I bought (the older model) had velcro side tightener things which are fucking annoying coz they always snag everything but the trousers kept me warm, if quite sweaty on climbs. I loved being able to peel them off and leave all the mud behind so it's not ending up in the sleeping bags/tent. They also don't look like cycling shorts so you kinda look like every other hiker/biker when you're sat in a pub.The missus liked hers. They were also a bit sweaty. But sweaty and warm is better than cold any day. She got hers even cheaper off ebay. I think they were basically the chick version of mine.
We had a little string bag thing that came in handy when it warmed up. You could strip the trousers off and carry them and then throw them on again if you got cold or were heading into water crossings.
MT500s now £135 vs. pair of Madison DTE for £85
BR didn't like the MT500s so I think I'll go with the DTEs (at least for a first pair)
